Here's another '40 Standard coupe from same angle. Compare it to the other one

That patina 40 looks to have the overload spring setup on the rear

  5. Is not the one tail light fender a 1938 standard item? By 40 I thought two were standard.

I do have one of the no light right rear fenders but would never use it. Between not having big lights to begin with and not liking having to explain to Johnny Law why I have a tail light out all the time I think it would be a poor choice to use it without adding a light.

40 Standards had 1 tail light while the deluxe model had 2

Ahhhh, a simpler time. Amazing to think that the term 'deluxe' could be applied to something as basic as having two tail lights.o_O
    Decadence, I say, pure decadence..............:D

there was a little more to it. Deluxes got 2 sun visors ,a fancier speedometer and gauges, chromed headlight trim, a fancier grille and a passenger side door armrest among other things

While some of those enhancements sit comfortably under the 'deluxe' badge, it is still amusing to me that 'two tail lights, two sunvisors, and a passenger side door armrest' were considered a luxury option in 1940.
Oh please, when can we go back........................

  11. My deluxe didn't have a passenger side door armrest. That may have been an option for the deluxes. Based on the glass dates on mine it would have come off the line in April, '40, and has the later style pull out ashtrays.

  12. My stake truck and panel also both had one tail lamp.

Somebody put a second taillight on my standard but I've got a set of single light fenders that are going on it. This might upset some people but it's gonna have two. Good news is they will be led so there won't be a big hole cut out. 20200307_103720.jpeg 20201216_205839.jpeg

With the distracted drivers, I would make my whole back door light up if I could!

209A04CE-8637-4249-A848-C880A1E4BE38.jpeg I added a couple of cycle lights to my standard for turn signals and extra brake lights.

That car is one of my favorites of all time. I always can't wait to see it at the Ottawa, Kansas Ole Maria's rod run. I can never see it too many times.

  22. Similar to what you have done, I may need to do with amber lenses. My build has 41 Studebaker tails and we can't have flashing brake lights for turn signals...has to be amber. Rather that sink something into a fender or bumper for a blinker, what you have done actually looks more period.

  24. That's actually a 38, but who cares, it's a Valley Custom classic.

You don't see too many chopped sedans. This one is heavily chopped and seems like they kept the round flow of the top. Hope to find more pics.....

  30. Mick, I got these pics sent to my by Bruce Malmstead, on FB. I believe the builder is a guy named Buddy Knox, who's around 84 years old. 82381987_311751059742686_8469868970218881024_n.jpg 82165314_452524115635416_1068557948797583360_n.jpg 82198418_2188709054771545_4148655786203021312_n.jpg 81763815_2505047116287663_343750683947696128_n.jpg 81886390_313732032864638_4655637844696498176_n.jpg 81746014_1020861991647139_6727726743429316608_n.jpg 82637280_821068751650971_138403916659294208_n.jpg
