  2. Forty sedan at a local show yesterday; a similar hot rod sedan running around the neighborhood turned me on to tudors when I was a kid.

No, that one I took just a couple weeks ago, but I'm glad y'all liked it! Here are some that I took at Back to the '50's this year in St. Paul, Minn. The first one is me in Gene Sonnen's famous Flamed '40, then some shots of some of Dave Bell's work on Gene's car and the last flame job Dave ever did from my rearview mirror. image000000_6.jpg IMG_20160617_152817040_HDR.jpg IMG_20160617_153029252.jpg IMG_20160617_153038787_HDR.jpg IMG_20160618_112230.jpg

Wow Pinstriper40, thanks for posting those pictures! We lived in Red Wing in the 70s, worked at the nuc plant, and got to see Gene's car in person. That car is sort of an anthem to a '40 Ford hot rod in my mind. And Dave Bell, what a great guy and such a talent. I regret that all my Dave Bell tees have become cleaning rags in the last 40 years, wish I had archived at least one.
Love the purple dash!!!!! I have to return to Back to the 50s on my bucket list, we we'll see. Went to it back in the day when Porky's was still around and my son was young.

As I recall, Handler told me that the car had been much altered from these images when he got it. It had been used for drag racing (maybe as a push car), and had big rear wheel cutouts and tires; the interior was gone; I don't recall the other changes. His restoration replaced the '40 headlights with '39s, changed the bumpers, body and top colors, and gave it a much higher stance than it originally had. He also used those cartoonish super-wide whitewalls. I don't care for any of those changes, but I'm glad that the car was saved.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to scan and post the article 50Fraud! I like the car in both versions. That hand tooled leather upholstery was really stunning. It's too bad that the hand tooling could not be duplicated to some degree.

  19. Wow; that straight on side-shot really shows the extensive mods to front, that previous pictures only hinted at.

Some 40's and a 39 I saw this morning on the HAMB. They were seen at a show Roseburg Oregon last weekend. IMG_0866.JPG IMG_0897.JPG IMG_0902.JPG IMG_0904.JPG
