Thank you i.rant! That's a great and very appreciated comment! I'm not doing as well on my latest build thread. Progress has been very slow as the body of the car has been a huge and challenging task for Don and I, so the updates are a long way apart. But we are getting there slowly but surely.

I did that this last summer. I had a commitment to show old blue eyes at an Early Ford V8 meet here in town. My Wife came down with COVID the night before and I needed to stay home with her. So I asked my neighbor a fellow car guy and good friend if he could take it to the show for me. Well he enthusiastically accepted to help! So I watched him drive it away for the day. It was great to see it rolling down the driveway with that sweet exhaust note a flathead makes. It sounds much better from behind than the drivers seat.

  3. My buddy was always complaining that he wanted to change his custom exhaust because he didn’t like the sound of it. We kept telling him it sounded great that he needed to listen to it outside. So one day he pulled up at our hangout, I told him to hop out and leaving it running. I hopped in and drove around so he could hear it. He was blown away with the sound. 2 years later he still has the same exhaust

When I saw the pictures of your coupe on FB my eye balls shot out of my head and knocked off my glasses. You did a great job and the choices you made with color, stance and everything else was purrfect. Thanks for sharing the build links. I know we will all enjoy them. Hope you continue to enjoy the Blessing.

Me too, the hood is a work of art.

  20. I always love seeing that photo that Craig Wise shot.

Fun fact: that is the pic that I sent to B-Scott Studio as the inspiration for the 3rd Annual Midwest Forty Ford Gathering t-shirts, asking him to draw it to more fit my vision with blackwalls and Halibrands and a black top boot.

  22. I posted these pics over in the FB group "Friends who like "Fordy" Fords" the other day.

Some of you are familiar with the stories behind my '40 coupe and stake truck as having been passed along to my by my late Uncle Bob. This is Uncle Bob with is '40 convertible that he had back what I am guessing to be in the '50s. It was long gone by the time I was born in '66.

    doesn't look shy about anything!

  25. Yeah, that helps explain why my stake truck has the wing tips on the bumper, chromed headlamp doors, and grille. When I got it, it didn't have the grille and bumper guards. I figured Uncle Bob would have approved of that addition. I ditched the '40 wheels and white walls and went with some 15x6 and 16x7 Wheel Vintiques Gennie wheels and late model radials to give it the look that I felt it needed.

upload_2023-2-16_4-20-22.png for the lowered to the legal limit folks… low and slim

    Hello,

I got on a custom car mode and started to draw different designs that were full customs. Body changes, wheels/tires, skirts and some received a chop. Now, I was looking at some 40 Ford coupes and sedans. They normally do not need any customizing as the design is pretty well cool in itself. Smooth flowing fenders, nice streamlining hood and grille combo and the long rear rounded fenders of the coupe. So, I started there and did some changes for the custom crowd.

The first thing was a mild chop as the cab roofline is tall and could use a little less, at least for a custom. The mild chop is so it does not look like the Jolly Green Giant stepped on it while hauling some Green Peas. Ha!

Then, the modified front fenders with frenched headlights and of all things, a suicide door set up. Inside, of course would be custom swiveling bucket seats with plenty of side bolster and adjustable back support. The whole interior would be white tuck and roll including the roof and panel. You can’t see it, but, no custom car is without a matching full trunk upholstery.

The stance...on a lowered rake angle give the “ready to go” attitude…

In our early days in hot rodding, we saw plenty of lowered cars that were CHP favorites to pull over and give tickets for unsafe builds. But this one would have the drag race history in the motor and therefore, a slight rake for some attitude, without going too low. The full custom suspension would give it the ride as well as a cool stance.

One last body modification would be a full rear fender skirt with a custom inserted taillight setup. And finally, smooth curved nerf bars in the front and rear. To highlight a set of full chromed Buick Skylark Wire Wheels in front and peeking out from the rear skirts. YRMV
