Thanks Straykatkustoms, you are correct. I was too quick to attribute, and my apology to McPhail, still a great drawing. So let me try once again to post a '40 from Dave Bell. When the Kustom Kings put on the Nostalgia Drags at New England Dragway in the 80s, I contacted Dave for tee shirt artwork and he was more than accomodating.

Never had the opportunity to meet Dave Bell. I've been a huge fan of his art and he was a huge influence with my art work. At one time his art was the main reason I bought Street Rodder magazine.

  5. "In Bill's Eye" was the first thing I would read, followed by the monthly art that Dave Bell had towards the back. What's cool is that through the HAMB and FB, I have become friends with many of the folks whose cars were featured in Dave Bell's artwork.

I forgot all about that, it was always a kool read. Got the chance to meet Bill at a Goodguys show in Plano.

In the early days the '40 was a staple at circle tracks and drag strips

I don't think that the beater panel has been posted in this thread since it got a good comet/Scotch Brite scrub, lettered, then boiled linseed rub.

I remember Dover Dragstrip, Wingdale, NY in '61. There was a '40 pickup there with those behind the cab stacks Honest Charley used to sell, and red wheels with 2" whitewalls. I think it was Chevy Bahama Blue. Really thought that was a "bitchin" truck. And even now 60 years later I think '40 and '41 half tons are the best.

IMG_5570 (2).jpg The Sedan is back on the road after about a year. It's been treated to a Skip Haney Coil rebuild and rebuilt fuel pump & distributor from Third Gen Automotive. It starts instantly now. IMG_5572.jpg

Remember the "hoodless" '60s? My first hot rod was a '47 tudor with no hood and scavenger pipes.
