Hot Rods Let's have our own 84th anniversary event for the 40 ford...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Moriarity, Feb 10, 2015.

  1. The 39 Guy, I had asked for the differences between the Deluxe and Standard models as I'm still trying to learn as much as I can since buying my 40. verde742 and others have been kind enough to help.

I have another question about wing window frames. I've noticed some are bright stainless or chrome and others are black. Is this an early and late deal or ? It doesn't seem to be a Deluxe/Standard thing as I've seen the different frames on both models.

Thanks Mick, I guess I didn't go far enough back to find the question. The wing window question is an interesting one. I don't have a definitive answer but I think they all came in black. I think that it is so confusing because so many vent windows were chromed by Hot Rodders over the years.

I had never heard that there is a difference between standard and deluxe bumper braces as Bob mentioned.

    The gauge clusters are different.

He ask the difference between Deluxe and Standard Body styles of Forty Fords. so some of us give him MORE.. he's a really nice guy..

I never met a stock body 39 deluxe OR 40 Fords with most of the stainless (or all ) that I didn't just LOVE.. I have been thru these pages a dozen times, and I will continue to go thru them again,

The stake truck is back on the road, but I didn't have time to get the hood back on it yet. 20171209_175939.jpg
I had to remove the Southwind heater, as it interfered with the SBC, so I cleaned up an old water heater and installed it yesterday. Still have to run some power to the fan motor.

Interesting on vent windows, I just DON'T know. I am thinking "black"
One of my best friends: Alan Darr ,who died recently, was the "authority" for V-8 Times, (official publication of Ford V-8 Club) for "39-"40-'41 PU.
He knew everything about these Fords. Miss him every day..

I would say Johnny Wagers , in Salem, Oregon would be the next "best authority" also his good friend Dave Kent.

Here's a couple more from the other fb..... & the coupe belongs to Rick Nelson. No I don't know him, just want to give credit when I can. Most often pictures are posted with no name of the owner or builder. 39coupefb3.jpg 39coupefb3.jpg 40sedanfb9.jpg

    Brett,
I installed a heater in my ‘40 from Speedway. I know “cheesy” but NAPA sells a rheostat type switch with the light up plastic knob that looks really cool.

  8. Yeah, I used one of those in my '54, but with it being a 6v fan motor, I'd hate to have somebody crank it up full blast. I'm planning on sticking a 6v reducer in it before the switch. I had one that I used on my '54 F100, that worked pretty slick.

I’m reaching way back on this one but years ago I had a ‘54 F-100 that I used the stock heater in and I used (I think ) a 12v motor from a Falcon or maybe a mustang.Bolted right in.

I was just looking at that photo a few minutes ago and forgot to check for the wing windows. Looking at it now I see that the door window garnish is different from a Deluxe also. The Deluxe garnish bottom flange extends down over the upholstery another inch or so.

I cant remember if it was mentioned before but the glove box on the standard also does not have a clock or the two chrome bars that the deluxe has extending from the radial speaker grill across the glove box.

Had to drop the Sedan off for some work. Probably the last time I drove it in the rain in December was during high school in 1973 IMG_2485.jpg !
