That's a genuine survivor and a grear find! Your choice as to the plan for future, but if it were mine, I'd clean it up, inside and out, and if the top isn't dry rotted, see what a good modern day cleaner can do for it, polish the paint, and drive it awhile to be sure just what you want to change, if anything at all.
I would give some serious attention to tire age and condition, keeping in mind the damage that can be done when one comes apart. On my OT truck, I had a spare that I think was one of the original tires on the '03 truck, one that I had worn down and installed as a spare after using the original in the first set purchased after wearing out the ones from new purchase. Back this Spring I discovered it was split right along the change from edge of tread to sidewall, approx at the edge of steel belt in carcass. Split was about 20" long:eek: If those tires are radials check the age and play it safe.

  7. Didn't want this thread to die out, so thought I'd throw up a pic of my '39 (tire/wheel combo to be changed out before long),

  10. A little different post in the thread...This one isn't necessarily about my '40 Ford, but a young man's birthday party that my '40 coupe took me to.

Friday afternoon, I saw a post shared on Faceplace, asking for anybody with a hot rod to join a family for their son's 17th birthday party. Their son, Robert, has Downs syndrome, and is totally fascinated by hot rods. Since it was about a 30 minute trip from the house, how could I refuse???

I dug through the inventory of 2016 Hot Rod Hundred t-shirts and found one that was a size up from what he normally wears, grabbed a couple of '40 Ford Coupe Hotwheels, and had my wife whip up a quick birthday gift bag for the party.

    14494828_10207823788374842_2978567244018138121_n.jpg
Before I could ask him to put on my hat for the photo, he had already grabbed it and was smiling for the camera! 14484803_10209558109057322_5060446478733734500_n.jpg I threw two cowboy hats, and my signature grey tinted safety glasses, just for a pose with Robert. What a thrill to help make this young man's 17th birthday party wish come true. He's definitely got the better poker face.

There were 4 of us, who the family did not know, who showed up. One guy brought his 77 Vette project, another an early 70's Plymouth Scamp, Steve Rohlman brought his killer '49 Merc convertible, and I had the beater '40 coupe. Robert's mother was overwhelmed by the "strangers" who showed up to help her son celebrate, and hopefully next year, we can do it again and help fill the park for him. Since the Crane City Park is where we end our SWMO Hot Rod Hundred events, I invited Robert and his family to come down to the park and hang out with us on Easter Saturday, 2017.

  13. The love of hot rods takes many forms. You did good, sir, and made me a little misty in the process.

  14. Thanks, guys. I feel it's extremely important to take those opportunities as they arise. Way more fun than going to a cruise night, to see their faces light up with excitement. Worth the cost of gas and postponing the wife's honey-do list, any day!

Can't remember if I posted this one from back in the olden days, when my coupe was still wearing Henry lacquer on the body and rattle can primer on the fenders. I got inspired by a Dennis McPhail drawing of the '40 convertible that he now owns, and my kid was playing with some sidewalk chalk out in the driveway. One thing led to another, and she and I flamed the drivers side fenders. I drove it around like that until I finally got it painted in 1998, with an occasional touch up after some rain.

I posted a pic of this car last year, it debuted at that show, at the time I didn't know it was Doug Currans new car. I ran into him at the GVMPS event on Sunday, and he emailed me some new photos.

Ford made 740 standard sedan deliveries in 1940 and they confused me in the early years. The 1941 sedan deliveries came with the same 1940 standard looking sheet metal but the v8 versions have FORD DELUXE script on the hood sides that looks like 1939 Deluxe items but is slightly larger... _\'41 Delivery HAMB.JPG

The 1941 sedan delivery hood trim is unique to that model and different than the waterfall treatment that a 1941 pickup would have and also the 1941 pickup hood differs from the 1940 standard /pickup or 1941 pickup hood at the cowl... 806.png

As the old saying goes: To own one, is to know one! Thanks for that specific clarification, Lou!

Lou, did you mean to say the 41 Delivery hood differs at the cowl from the latter mentioned above?
