Now back in the '50s, that's the look you wanted on a '40, except for the primer and usually they had Caddy sombrero hubcaps on he front. Maybe Desoto bumpers.

I trust the Mod will excuse the glimpse of a OT wheel but this picture brings back so many memories. The Gas ranks back in early 60s at Wingdale, NY (Dover Dragstrip) were mostly cars that were driven to the track, slicks put on and headers uncapped. Especially in C/Gas and below. Ford and Chevy coupes filled the majority of the ranks. This hard charging '40 speaks volumes about when drag racing was a hot rod sport, not a corporate advertising business. Besides this old guy is running a righteous Clay Smith cam! I, in my imagination, think a 301" Chevy, 11.5 to 1 J-E pistons, double hump heads with 2.00 intakes, Chevy rear with 4:56 Posi and a four speed. Maybe a Man-A-Fre with the optional gas injection solenoid and ports (I ran one of those on a hot rod years ago, wish I had it today). Damn now I have a smile on my face for the afternoon.

  16. That one was built by Rich Boyd, who recently sold it, from what I understand.

Hey Andy, your Coupe sits perfect in my eye, what wheel/tyre size combo are you running, and what front end setup? Thanks

  23. Thanks!
165R15 tires on 15x5 on the front and 255/70-15 tires on 15x8 Real Rodder trick 8's on the back. But it will take some work to get that rear wheel / tire combo under the rear fenders. Check out flamed A bones thread as he is doing it right now. Hope the link works! :)

Any pictures of that hood? I've just had mine punched, would like to see how far back you managed to go, and what they look like?

Thats great info, thanks. Just looked at flamedabones thread, nothing much on there re rear end, but looks like stock inner fenders and chassis, so all down to carefull axle width
    /tyre selection I guess.

50Fraud, I'll watch for it, I know it was a lousy picture. As soon as I see it again, I'll get better pictures and post them.
