OK, 504640.... A little background on the "Candy And Chrome" '40..... Built by Ed Leite (Hayward, Ca).
The coupe was taken apart in 1960, and took 6 years to complete. It features an early Olds with 3 Strombergs, Candy Apple Red lacquer, pearl white Naugahyde interior, and pretty much chrome everything.... complete chrome exhaust, front end, transmission, rear end, etc. The firewall was removed, chromed & re-installed..... the entire frame was chromed !
Found by the previous owner in 2001, the '40 had been stored for years in Northern, Ca. The first picture is a shot of the '40 being shown at the Oakland Roadster show in 1967. After being apart for the last year (for some "deep cleaning", re-chroming of a few pieces, & lowering), I just got it back together last month. The paint is aged down & lacquer checked, but it still "pops" pretty good in direct sun light. I feel pretty lucky to be the current caretaker of a real 1960's Hot Rod survivor !!

Granada 8" and a Posies parallel leaf setup loaded and ready for the 40 panel. ;-)

(Figured this works in this thread, since it's loaded in the back of my '40 stake truck, and destined for the '40 panel. LOL)

I agree... I like the '39 Deluxe best of all... Ironically, my '39 has a '40 Deluxe grille & hood! (Anyone want to trade?)

So... I've been scrolling through this thread for several days now. My wife walked by & asked why I'm looking at pictures of cars that all look the same.
Later I walked by her desk and noticed she was scrolling through a German Shepard web-site...
In retrospect I probably shouldn't have asked her why she was looking at pictures of dogs that all look the same... I'm having dinner at In & Out Burger tonight...

I can't figure how that would work on the rear, though...?

Hi Mark, Yeah, it's '39 so maybe it's different than a '40?... the rears have a "dog-leg" on the one bracket... so it bolts to the back of the frame. the outer bolts to the side of the frame. I'm planning on tucking them in tighter to the body, and just figured I'd have to cut & weld to fit.

I have 2 small (but REALLY bright) L.E.D.s mount in the back windows... They work with each tail light for brakes & turn signals. They're mounted in a little aluminum box with a rubber seal around the glass contact area to keep the light from leaking out. But I like the idea of the initial "pulsing" and might add that feature. I've seen 'em on motorcycles... where do I get one?

yup, I just looked at mine. I cut the rear and tig'd em back together. both rear brackets have a bend so I cut em just inside of the body and shortened them in the straight part

My Great Uncle had a '40 Sedan Delivery in his back field. Been there so long it had a tree growing out of the engine compartment! He told me I could have it, but I had to get it out of there, he wasn't going to mess with it. I came back the following spring with a chainsaw & trailer... but it was gone. He said the county cited him & he had a scrapper come & haul it off. Grrrrrrrrr...

This thread is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Here, the Coupe is getting a periodic start up during hibernation season.

We visited my brother recently and he had these old pictures from around 1974. One is with me, the other is with my mother. I couldn't afford new tires, so I drove year round with the snows that were on the car when we got it. I had upgraded with junkyard trim rings by the second picture, they were $1 each. After driving the '40 257 days last year, I started the New Year off by driving it about 70 miles around northwest Arkansas. The antique store is in the building that was the very first Walmart store in 1962, 8th and Walnut, Rogers, Arkansas 20200101_134602.jpg

Got a couple of irritating, but not disabling electrical gremlins to chase down and fix on my coupe, then enjoy it when I have the opportunity arise:)
Got some fairly involved work to do on BGII, my ! 31 "A" Hiboy installing a dual disc clutch and reworking the related components.
Will say my worn out 82 yr. old body ain't looking forward to all that time on a creeper! but really the hardest part ain't the work while on the creeper, it's getting up and down on and off the creeper.
