yup, I just looked at mine. I cut the rear and tig'd em back together. both rear brackets have a bend so I cut em just inside of the body and shortened them in the straight part

My Great Uncle had a '40 Sedan Delivery in his back field. Been there so long it had a tree growing out of the engine compartment! He told me I could have it, but I had to get it out of there, he wasn't going to mess with it. I came back the following spring with a chainsaw & trailer... but it was gone. He said the county cited him & he had a scrapper come & haul it off. Grrrrrrrrr...

This thread is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Here, the Coupe is getting a periodic start up during hibernation season.

We visited my brother recently and he had these old pictures from around 1974. One is with me, the other is with my mother. I couldn't afford new tires, so I drove year round with the snows that were on the car when we got it. I had upgraded with junkyard trim rings by the second picture, they were $1 each. After driving the '40 257 days last year, I started the New Year off by driving it about 70 miles around northwest Arkansas. The antique store is in the building that was the very first Walmart store in 1962, 8th and Walnut, Rogers, Arkansas 20200101_134602.jpg

Got a couple of irritating, but not disabling electrical gremlins to chase down and fix on my coupe, then enjoy it when I have the opportunity arise:)
Got some fairly involved work to do on BGII, my ! 31 "A" Hiboy installing a dual disc clutch and reworking the related components.
Will say my worn out 82 yr. old body ain't looking forward to all that time on a creeper! but really the hardest part ain't the work while on the creeper, it's getting up and down on and off the creeper.

My coupe is 80, I am 77 this month. Here is picture of the two loves of my life. The wife has been with me for 54 years this summer. She was the reason I got the coupe, when she could walk the running boards and the front seat were terrific for her. She doesn't remember much these days but she knows "that's our hot rod". Hello,

When we had our 2nd 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery that had a 327, a few friends wanted me to get a newer independent front suspension for better handling and road-ability. We had gone through thorough balancing, truing the tires, new shocks, and regular neighborhood alignment shop for a better ride. The rims/wheels were checked for being out of round, as well as not aligning from worn lug nut holes. It was not fun to drive a short distance and have the bumpy ride. When my wife did not like it, it had to be fixed or changed.

We could not do the drastic change over to a full independent suspension as it was our daily driver and it could not be laid up for weeks. If this changeover to a full independent suspension would solve our bumpy ride, my wife was all for it. But, she did not have to use the sedan delivery for her daily driver. Decisions for a major lay up and change was considered for plus and minuses. The minuses won this round as a friend from early 1964 was called and he told me to bring the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery over to his shop.

My friend was an expert, front end alignment mechanic and wanted me to bring the sedan delivery to his shop. I sort of dreaded this drive, as the last time I went to his shop was in 1964 and he aligned/balanced my 1965 El Camino. His shop was in Culver City, a 60 plus mile drive up the coast, just to get there. It was going to be a long bumpy ride up there. But, he told me to drive to his new shop in the OC, just a 15 minute drive from our house. Wow, great news, we were there in an instant!

He looked at the whole sedan delivery, the stance, the equipment, took it for a drive and came back to the shop with eyes wide open. When asked if he could fix it, he chuckled and got right to work. He had drawn angles, numbers, use all of his old alignment skills and even his new lift rack alignment equipment to get to the bottom of the bumpy ride. The combination of the good old bubble balance machine for some road trials led to the new machine in the corner.

Digital electronic read outs with a spinning wheel made for accurate placing of weights. Then when the drive was still a little bumpy, he used the old, “wheels on the car” spinning machine to get the pinpoint balancing act together. Since he made sure the axle was straight, the brakes not pulling, and everything was level in the stance, he was determined to get it right. It worked.

The stock 1940 front end was aligned, balanced and drove straight without any hands on the steering wheel. He made the sedan delivery ride true and straight, with the bumpy ride now, gone. It was like night and day. It did not matter how much it cost as it was now a great driver and the fun was back in driving hot rods.

When I got home, my wife wanted to go for a drive and during the ride down the coast, she commented that she might like driving the 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, again. She said the ride was like a new car with new tires, straight off of a showroom floor, except it was an old hot rod, not a new car. It was not a major repair like a completely new front end. But, is sure rode like it was brand new, thanks to the expertise of my friend and his new shop. More fun miles were definitely added in the next 7 years.

The car was originally built by Gene Stanton of Germantown Pennsylvania in 1951 with a303 olds motor with trips. The current owner is looking for any pictures or information on the car. I got the pictures from the friends who like fordy Ford's site. the current owner wants to return it to it's 1951 glory. FB_IMG_1578705659051.jpg
