Leaving my sisters home near Livingston Montana headed to Yellowstone.
WOW! How very beautiful! I've always wanted to visit Montana.
Clear Lake Iowa
Isn't that where Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens played their last show before perishing in a plane crash?
Yup, that's the place. Clear Lake, Iowa.
...........and was it in fact there at the Surf Ballroom?.Does anyone know if it is still in operation as an entertainment venue or maybe a museum that pays tribute to those lost souls?
We were there on a Sunday and unfortunately 2 hours early for the 3 hour window it was open for.
This was the last venue Holly, Valens and Richardson played. The well known plane crash they were involved in was a short distance away(we didn’t ,but the sight can be visited) .
The Surf is still used for events as well as a museum.
Clear Lake is a neat little town, we’ll head back another time.
.........and in the words of Don McLean, "the day the music died".
Was it not Waylon Jennings opted out for that flight
that fateful evening and relegated to ride the cold
tour bus for whatever reason? I may have read a
simple draw of the straws? I enjoyed many years of
Waylons music and still do. I also really liked the
Big Boppers Wedding song! I am sure these guys would have remained majors stars for many years.
A sad day for sure.
Very cool picture
Waylon was Holly’s base player, opted to bus because Big Bopper was under the weather.Valens got his seat winning a coin toss so it’s said.
yes, its still open as a venue & museum, been there a few times, the crash site is open too, but on a gravel road, then a 1/4 mile walk between cornfields
Stopped for a bite to eat on way home from work

Don Garlits Tow Car
Looks like you have one more 40 than you have stalls..... I have room for one more i could use a pickup
I have another building behind this one, and also the garage attached to the house..so I'm covered..well they're covered.
HMMMMM , Just my luck, a guy who has stalls for all of his treasures! Nice line up! I was just giving my cousin a bad time the other day as he was showing me his latest project of converting a storage shed in to a garage. Seems he doesn't like having to store his cars two deep in his buildings. He doesn't like having to move one out of the way to get it at the one he wants to drive (we should all have such a problem). I think this will make 7 stalls for seven Hot Rods. I told him he should label the garage doors by the days of the week so he can keep track of which car to drive each day.
