The closest "Nationals for '40 Fords" here in the South is the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, Ga. in late October. The event has been down some the last couple of years due to the weather & construction, but it's always been the largest gathering of '39-'40 Fords in the eastern US & possibly the world. And why not. With it's popularity with moonshiners & the formation of NASCAR, there is no other car that represents the South than the '39-'40 Ford coupe.

Poster from 40 Ford day La Palma park--this std was the poster car and on shirts as well. Wife says it's the best one out of the 14-15 we have done-she bought it as a roller at a swap meet-I was done with 40's but guess not--that was 3 40's ago. Lives in Socal now

That car is just beautiful! On cars that are done right, some of the not flashy factory colors are killer.

It was fun to park my blue '40 next to the black one at the Outriders' Picnic. The two cars differ considerably in style, but have many of the same details -- especially at the rear:

  11. I'm still pretty jealous about the new acquisition. I told Tami to reach out to Lynn, and figured he'd help somebody out there become the new caretaker.

  12. I got my '40, "Nuthin' Fancy", some new shoes for our anniversary! I'm excited to put some miles on the Bias-look radials! I've heard good things about them. IMG_20181216_123119_922.jpg

  16. Harvey Ragsdale's old '40. I know that Jack White had it, when I first remember seeing it around Springfield, then he sold it to David Libby, and I think that Harvey bought it from him. Harvey did some questionable modifications to the car.

Wish ya the best with it, and plan to bring it out on the SWMO Hot Rod Hundred with us in April.

I’ll absolutely be there in April! Always wanted to come to that event but didn’t have any contacts...

The car seems well built but does need a few things ironed out. There is just a touch of street rod in it that I will change but the thing is fun to drive! Flathead and a T-5 make it very streetable. First I have to get rid of all the rats nests.

  18. If I remember, Harvey put a Winters quick change under that thing, too. First thing I would do is replace that windshield. LOL

(I'll be posting the online entry form for the SWMO HRH soon.)

Here's a shot of your '40, during the 1st Annual SWMO Hot Rod Hundred, back in 2014, to bring it back on topic. LOL @cvstl took this photo.

It has a regular old banjo in it now...
The windshield and radial tires are on the chopping block.. as well as lowering the rear a bit to level out the stance. I’ll look forward to the HRH!

Hah! I don’t feel so bad now. When I was working on my ‘40 I took the bumper brackets off but left the rubbers on them. When I put them back on the car I paid no attention to ( didnt know) how they were supposed to be and they ended up upside down. A local 40 expert pointed it out to me. Color me embarrassed. I made a thin slice with a razor blade, inverted ‘em and glued them back together with my secret sauce.

Ringing in the new year with a clutch swap, due to some miscalculations when I selected the prior pressure plate. It seems the diaphragm fingers were too long and ground the throw out carrier and destroyed the bearing.

20190101_154031.jpg And this was after I took about 1/8 inch off before installing it.

Here is the 2nd pressure plate. Should resolve the issue.

You have it looking good, got pics of the "multi" carb set up too. I've got some miles in that old girl with Darrel, it's a neat 'ol car. Here's a pic of it in front of my house in Texas the day he bought it.

Wow great pic! Now I know why he fell in love with it and brought it home! Darrel and I put the Edmunds intake and Strimbergs on it right before Christmas. It was my Christmas gift to myself hehe
