Hot Rods Let's have our own 84th anniversary event for the 40 ford...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Moriarity, Feb 10, 2015.

  1. ...............It's on my list as well. Been told that there are more '40 Fords per square mile than anywhere else in the country during this event.:D

I've watched some of the Videos from past shows, between the '40's and '57 300's, Old Henry had the Transportation part of " Shining" pretty well covered!!

  3. The Monnshine Festival has been slipping the last few years. They stuck all 'shine cars off to one side last year and half as many as usual showed. Not sure if they will correct that error in judgement or if it is the new norm. Sad.

Why do they always have to mess up a good thing??

I have been thinking of changing the wheels on my 40 so I was looking thru this thread for ideas. Made it thru 30 pages and realized that I only had 110 more to go. Wow. Anyway, I did see this post of mine on page two and thought I would update it. This was supposed to be a well preserved 40 but I knew the owner and our friend who built it for him were in for some surprises' After it came back from stripper they were shocked. In the end they realized that they should have bought a Carpenter body. Here is what it looked like at the start. Once it gets out of upholstery jail I will post follow up pictures.
A friend has owned this 40 since 1998, been sitting in his garage. He has had a 40 Merc and a 40 stakebed pu built by a friend into pretty traditional vehicles [ in appearance] who will do this also. I would be tempted to just freshen it up, but it does have some issues. After stripping it may have more. But it is his car. Nice 40 to start with for sure. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I wouldn't change the wheels. There's nothing that looks better than steelies & caps. Maybe some big & littles for a cool rake & some lowering with longer shackles in the rear & a dropped axle in the front. IMG_2701.JPG

  16. Couldn't resist taking advantage of a nice sunny spring day, to get them out of the garage for a photo op.

Getting the truck bed ready for installation............in keeping with the colour scheme of black and silver. Time to cut the stainless strips and bolt them down. Definitely a two man job or in my case me and my wife. bed.JPG

  22. I got a message, late on Friday night, asking if I'd be willing to take my truck down to Crane, MO, for some prom pics for my buddy, Robert. It was followed up with a request to give him a ride to prom. How can a guy resist hanging out with this kid?!? We had a great time. 20180428_143309.jpg 20180430_091235.jpg

looks like it would have been a killer car back in its day. . Also Looks like its been 'recommisioned' with a new MC, not sure I'd want to be removing that rocker cover tho.. and loving that top hose. Was the 57 rear on the transverse leaf still?

Robert looks like he is ready to impress the "Ladies" and arriving in a 40 was I'm sure a real thrill for all.

  26. sorry for the off topic discussion part of this post, but, responding to the comment, Robert is apparently the only guy willing to dance at their prom. One video, that his mom shared on FB, showed him dancing with 4 young ladies at one time!

now, to bring it back to 40 Fords, here are a few from the Stray Kat 500

A question for 40 Ford passenger car owners. What to use for tail lights ? Mine are basically invisible even with LED bulbs. Maybe the astronauts can see them , you sure can't see them from behind the car. My car is not raked either. I had this problem 50 years ago , but traffic and drivers were not near the problem then as now. I am almost afraid to drive because of this. Are these Bob Drake lights any better or worth $125.00 ? Later Bill

  29. Bill, I switched from 1157s to 2357s. they have a brighter brake lamp filament in them, and can be found at any parts store.
