  3. .............All I know is that a lot of shows require you to have a fire extinguisher on hand to be allowed onto the show field. How the placing of it by the front driver wheel is the subject of conjecture. Maybe that is spelled out in the show rules.

Thanks Loth...ignorance solved, have never been to a car show where that was required. All I ever do is the local small shows, fund raisers etc.
Only makes sense for anyone who has an investment in both labor and money to have one handy at all times.

In the Hershey pictures, I like how the two standards have the bumper ends, grille guard and whitewalls, but the deluxe is standing tall with blackwalls.

Pleasanton, August. First time I've been able to park my car next to a stock-bodied '40 convertible.

It would be interesting to see which design the Ford designers would have chosen to produce for 1940 if given the choice between these two beauties.

Is that blue beauty channeled or sectioned? Unlike many '40s with major body modifications, the proportions are "right"!

They would have picked the one that actually was produced, because the passenger space is much roomier than in mine. I do think that the shape of the side windows on mine is a big improvement, though.

Thanks. It's channeled 2 1/2". The hood and quarters are sectioned a like amount.

  19. I am usually not a huge whitewall fan, but there is something about a '40 coupe, wearing Moon discs and wide whites that turns my crank!

with apologies to Ron Funkhouser who posted these pics on the Jalopyrama show thread, this was too nice not to copy to this thread! Wow, talk about a flashback to my misspent youth, this brings back so many memories of the late 50s.

It's remarkable how much the convertible windshield affects the appearance of this coupe. Not better or worse, IMO, but it really does have a different character. As I recall, that coupe was called Voodoo Child, but I can't remember the name of the guy who built it.

  28. IIRC the guy was from Iowa, or maybe Nebraska. Meadors bought the car a few years before he passed from the guy. Not sure if Marilyn kept it or passed it on.
