  4. LOL. My beater before it got painted. I really kick myself sometimes, as the body had GREAT original Henry black on it.

I guess I was destined to love the 40 ford I must have been 2 or so here. 1952 with my grandparents. I don't remember the 40 convertible but my Dad owned this one when I was very young. I had seen one other picture of before but ran across this one this morning.

Friday oddity, a 1940 tudor used for rural mail delivery in midwest farm country. "Neither sleet nor snow can spare us from our appointed rounds" or some such phrase.

This is the only car my father ever bought brand new. He picked a good one. Black 40 Deluxe coupe. There is a newspaper clipping telling the story of picking it up in Detroit. Scan 22.jpg Scan 8.jpg

Some years ago I got invited by a buddy to go to a major restoration shop just north of Boston. They were preparing very high end cars for a show at the Fine Arts Museum in Boston. One car was a pre-war Alpha race car that was being assembled. I looked at a seat frame that had yet to be upholstered and the thin tubing design, in high gloss red, was so striking that I remarked I would have it on a pedestal in my living room as art. That same thought has always come to me about '40 Fords, attractive, sexy and curvaceous design worthy of being appreciated on its own.
