You know I would feel really bad if I looked at this thread and did not own a 40. How can people not?:(

Ain't that the truth !! So I just went out and got rid of the blue turd ( which I owned for 32 years ) and bought the red one so I wouldn't feel bad. DSCN0211.JPG DSCN1260 (2).JPG

I know this custom has been posted on here but it lights my fire everytime I see it! Wasn't this from a Dave Bell cartoon? Or did he do a cartoon after the car was created? There was a retired pilot here in NE who took a midwest car builder a single Bell rendering and had a fat fendered convertible built that is a killer car, a cartoon brought to life. Not a '40 though.

That car was called the ruby slipper and was built by my friend Bill Michaelson back in the late '90's. Dave Bell did the artwork on the firewall and I believe also on the dash. It may have been in one of Bells cartoons in street Rodder magazine but the car came first. I do not know who owns it now but it never had flames and has also had a bunch of billet aluminum crap put on it at some point.

My 40 the day I brought it home, it sat in a wheat field for 60 years after the motor got yanked out to keep the farm truck at that time going. Need to get some newer pics uploaded its come a long way since then.

Lol, this ones from about 2 months ago still not completely up to date... but its what I got at the moment. Being an outdoor project everytime I sand something to bare metal I rattle can it. I know eventually I'll be sanding, brake cleaning and acetoning all of it off again so I can lay some epoxy primer down. What can I say poor boy got poor boy ways.

Last year, I met Robert, who's mom had posted an open request for anybody with a cool car or truck, to bring it to the Crane City Park, in hopes to giving her son a cool "Hot Rod" birthday. Since I drove the coupe, last year, I figured it was the '40 stake truck's turn this year. It just so happens that it was Robert's favorite at his 18th Birthday Bash.

While the '40 Fords are something special to me, it's the places that they take me, and the people that I get to meet and visit with, that makes them even more enjoyable!

(btw, the T-shirt that Robert is wearing is the 2016 Hot Rod Hundred t-shirt that I gave him for his 17th birthday, and it featured my coupe on the back)

Right on the money, Bret! It is not the destination but the folks you meet on the way. The missus and I have great conversations in the Market Basket parking lot, the burger joint, and just everyday travels. We rarely go to "events" anymore, we just putt around. And when you can combine that with making someone special feel happy, well my friend you hit the cosmic lottery. Good on you!

I'll try this again... somehow when I tried this the first time, it din't go as planned. I ended up posting the pictures more than once. I'm not even sure how I did that, so I deleted it and now I'll try again. These were taken last weekend at Nats North in Kalamazoo, some at motels and some at the show.

Going to work in the morning is a little easier when you have this to greet you as you head out the door.

Our favorite type ford was represented at the Colorado hill climb this year by this fine 40 coupe. Picture taken by winduptoy.
