$5 bumper segments for an early 50s chevy....wouldn't that be nice?

I remember as a kid sitting down with the JC Whitney catalogs. I'd think to myself (and this is like when I'm ten).. OK.. I've got a '50 Hudson.... what do I want on it? and then I'd thumb through and make a list of all the goodies you could get. Those catalogs were definitely one of the driving forces that molded my interest in classic cars. Great to see them again. Thanks for posting!

We got a JCW convertible top in the mid 70s, for our 61 impala. I learned that you need to know what you're doing when you install a convertible top.

Great history thread here. Spent many an hour looking at the Whitney catalog and dreaming in my younger days. Thanks for scanning, and sharing squirrel.

To a young car guy, getting the JC Whitney catalog was almost as good as getting a Playboy magazine...... almost;):D

    Squirrel,

I have some fender trim pieces on my 38 chevy 5W. Someone once told me that they came from jcwhitney back in the day. Want to find the catalogue someday.

I apologize for reviving this thread but ran into a Warshawsky catalog on feeBay today and had to search here to see if it had been mentioned.

The main difference as I remember were the Warshawsky catalogs were a lot cheaper for the exact same parts as the Whitney catalog. I did a lot of ordering back in the late 50's for Model A parts from Warshawsky. It was almost like going through a Ford Dealership Stock Catalog.

Dang!!! I did't read the entire thread, but was the
"supercharger", that took the place of the rotor in a distributor even mentioned? My best friend in high school (66-69) added up all the horsepower increases "guaranteed" by the various parts additions in the catalog; I think his 55 Chevrolet wound up with the horsepower of a Top Fuel Dragster, at the time. Course he also had a sense of humor; something J.C. Whitney was lacking in, then and now! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Now, the ONLY thing I ever ordered from J.C. Whitney, was a cam and kit for a 250 Chevrolet six cylinder engine; no complaints there. It was W-A-Y too much cam for a street engine, but it did perform well, until it did't. We all learn at our own rate. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
