    Hey all,

Just starting to dig the jalopy scene as my next project is going to be a pre war pick-up hopefully. Retired a couple years ago after 36 years in the military, aircraft maintenance. Airframe & Powerplant mechanic with a 44 x 72 shop/hangar on the farm.
Looking forward to sharing anything worthwhile I can but mostly need to learn from your experience. I'm just finishing piecing together a '65 vette roadster from odd parts and aftermarket body panels. More like a GrandSport with a 1/2 height windshield but without the ugly flairs and hood.
I'm also into HIGH winding short stroke small blocks and am not opposed to having pistons made for 283's like the one I'm doing now. I'm open to any and all suggestions for making these things sing at 8k. Thanks and Regards, Dana

  2. Welcome to the group. You should be a good fit. Pics of vette please

  3. GL, welcome aboard and thanks for your many years of service.

Welcome to the HAMB from a fellow A&P, I worked airplanes in the Navy and commercial aircraft until my retirement. This place is a lot of fun, you will enjoy it.

    Welcome, Dana.

I love Vette's, anything old, and sbc's. Have done lots of Z28 302" clone motors, which
will rev to 9k, at least. Be sure to post your project progress here. Tons of helpful, fun
people to help and encourage you, 24/7. Bob

Just something about airplanes and hotrods that seem to go together. Glad to have you. Posting your general location would be advantageous to you. Might be a HAMBer living right in your neck of the woods.

Welcome to the HAMB, and thanks for your service! I was USAF 1969-75 myself.
High winding 283 Chevys are fun engines. Usually mostly track engines when you get to domed pistons, and builds that can turn 9,000 rpm's reliably.

Your thread title sounds a lot like Sympathy for the Devil by the Stones. I respect that. Welcome

    Hey y'all,

I'm located in Ashwood, South Carolina. A displaced Vermont Yankee. Now if someone can help spec a 283 that'll turn 8k and have some life in it that would help. I the block cleaned up at .070, no worries as my ring source makes pistons. He's always done right when I need custom pistons for a Lycoming or Continental aircraft engine.
I want to be pump gas friendly so I'd like to hear about compression ratios. I have a set of '462 heads I'm setting up with 2.00" intakes and 1.6" exhaust. How much/style connecting rod do I need without overkill with LIGHT pistons. Solid flat or roller specs. ideas. Peak hp 6800-7200.

Welcome aboard! You might want to start a new thread specifically about the 283 build, you'll get more responses. I personally can't give you the answers/advice, but there are quite a few around here that can. Lot's of love for a high revving 283 around here (ignore the SBC haters that are bund to pipe up too).
