As I am new and learning here, I guess I will be building a streetfreak, NOT a gasser. LOL. I want to share my project progress with everyone. Thanks for looking and sharing

Might be best to call it a "gasser" around here. Street Freaks come from a time after the time focused on here. Enjoy!

Once you get the car further put together, with all the heavy parts that will be on it, you can play with the front springs to get the ride height where it wants to be. If you take out a few leaves, it will sit down lower, and not look so much like a street freak. So you might want to play with it now, to make sure the steering linkage will work right, etc.

taking leaves out helps the ride quite a bit, too...softens up the springs so they can actually spring.

Not really a Street Freak either. All the same, call it whatever you like.

i am building a '54 ford sedan gasser myself. built along the same lines of your car. it is a replica of my first car built in the early sixties. it was a real gasser and it sat high all the way around just like they did at lions when i was going there. so, your car is nothing like those "street freaks" cars. mostly because they don't cut the wheel wheels out. does anybody not look at the willys cars of that time?

I was born in 1961, started driving in 1975 and bought my first car ('63 Dodge) in 1976.
If you remember those years they make for good memories, but not a time I'd really like to relive. To much negative automotive change. Start with big ugly safety bumpers showing up in 1973. Remember the term "smog motor"? park your car turn the ignition off and walk away while the engine dieseled for several more minutes. What about exhaust that had the aroma of rotten eggs? Got to love those catalytic converters. I could go on, but why depress myself more?

So yes, let's keep things closer to 1965 and older please.

Worked on closing off door/fender where I radius the wheel wells. Still have to do the door and the radius. It is a lot more work than I anticipated. 60C9C56B-63C4-4863-866A-9F12878AC9FE.jpeg 2D8F8B87-1359-4FE8-8876-2B5216D3F467.jpeg 144EC4F0-6E6F-488A-BF2A-1CDDADA041AD.jpeg 1F50B3AF-1FF4-4EE7-A403-C747A26628F3.jpeg

maybe that's why we usually try to find a 2 door to turn into a hot rod? :)

Looks like a Speedway axle kit. Are the brakes the GM Metrics that come with the kit or something different?
Keep rolling on your project, it'll be fun when you're done. You have welding skills, which is important in a project like this. Good L:uck.

Yes. Speedway 58-1/4” Ford spindle. GM Metric calipers painted with red caliper paint. Looking for a Ford 9” rear end. Stock rear axle is 56-1/4”. I don’t think the stocker can handle the big block anyways? I was thinking of going 62”-63” flange to flange to get the tires sticking out of the wheel wells for better stance look. Anybody have any thoughts or comments on the wider track width. Also planning 4:11 gears.

Had to build a bracket to support the lower end of the column. Also cleaned up and painted the heater blower motor, fan and housing.
Edit: By the way the fan motor works very well and is a 2 speed high and low. Tested it on 12v and works great.

Got the windows with the parts car, and now have an extra rear window to practice on installing lol. Pics of windows later.

Neat project. I see the car in Competition Orange with Cragar S/S or chrome reverse.
I'd take it to the next level, with a 2 door conversion. Scrounge up a pair of 2 dr. doors, slide the B pillars back....

Swapped out springs with the Ford 2dr. parts car. They seem lighter duty than the Mercury. My thoughts were for smoother street driving. I can always go back to the Mercury springs. I put the axle under the springs in the rear for more lift. Still have the low ass end look, with a fairly level stance. Need to get some brake lines ran, brake booster, brakes, etc. Also a pic of the parts car.
