I don't seem to get a chance to work on my own projects, as I'm always busy building cars/parts for clients. I enjoy it though and it is quite rewarding when the job is finished. This is a complete scratch built steel '40 Willys front end.

I hope Randy doesn't mind me saying this, but, I am damn proud to say I had a hand in this! Ok, ok, I helped do some of the rough shaping on one of the fenders and part of the hood (if he even used the piece I started). Oh, and I managed to set myself on fire while we were building the buck for the center section...........oops!

The finish work, where the true beauty shows, is all Randy!

    Awesome work, Randy, as always!

I can be there by 9 am Wednesday! Biggest issue right now is having the money to rent a room, that oil refinery sure drives up motel prices down there!

Yeah, somehow that shirt got washed and put away, ran across it in the dresser a few weeks ago and just had to laugh! I think about it every time I use an angle grinder too!

Wish you or I would have had some more time while I was down there helping out with Doug's truck last month.

You can tell that it is not a oem willys front end, it actually fits together. LOL The original willys stuff was crude. Man, that is really awesome work. Do you build willys cab back sections?

I didn't get many build pics of this particular front end, but there are lots of build pics of various projects on my website. www.fergusoncoachbuilding.com

willys truck, as a matter of fact, we're building one now. I'm converting a sedan to a pickup.

  16. Just goes to show you that when people say someone is always better they're probably talking about you Randy. Awesome work! How many years did it take for you to reach this skill level? It's got to be great knowing that if you can't find a piece for the car you can just make it.

I became interested in sheetmetal shaping about 8 years ago. I was working as the painter in a collision shop and building hot rods in my own shop at night. I decided breathing bondo dust and paint fumes wasn;t doing it for me anymore. I left the collision shop and went full time shaping sheetmetal in Oct. '04.

I did this '40 Willys coupe for one of my first clients and sort of fell into the Willys parts/'restoration' business as a result.

Randy's website, for those who haven't checked it out, has a lot of pictures of his work, finished and in-progress.

That finished Willy's a couple of posts up? Man, y'all should have seen that thing! To say it was rough is an understatement!
