I was just in Manteno, Illinois and saw a late 60s style Austin gasser on a trailer. It was named "Pure Acid" and had 331 on the hood scoop. Anyone know this car?? Any info?? It was a very cool car with ALOT of chrome.

Searched my photo archives and came up with nothing. Do you have the driver or owners name?

  7. Have you tried the Gasser page on FaceBook? There are many groups and dedicated pages to 60's and 70's drag racing loaded with thousands of guys who know just about everything that happened back in the day.

Rich isn't that a sign of the times, "thousands of guys who know just about everything that happened back in the day." on facebook. I still have an antenna for my TV, a rotary phone in the shop and a dumb phone in my pocket. By the way I spoke to an old timer from your old neck of the woods, Jim Rhea. Still alive and kicking.

Not exactly what you are looking for but it might be a piece of the puzzle. This is the pure acid 33 willys that the Boyd brothers ran. The Austin might have been run by them too. uploadfromtaptalk1358527185957.jpg

If it is infact an Austin you saw, it's likely a new buid. The Pure Acid '33 Willys was the old Boss Hydro car which is now the winged and slammed Flash Back owned by Dave Cobb out of Ohio.

That's where the name rings a bell! I knew Pure Acid was a car that rang a bell... Yes the Pure Acid 33 was the Old Boss Hydro 33 Willys, and now is the Flashback 33 Willys... Just restating what Blown48 said... Wish you had a pic of the Austin, I'm a sucker for Austin Gassers.

yea, this thing was beautiful! it was kind of getting dark, but what i saw was a white car with funky green panel paint. goldleaf lettering! a whole lot of chrome and looked like 12 spoke spindle mount front runners. this thing looked perfect! i wish i could see it again... i knew i should have turned around and followed it!!

Might contact Rob Stuart at Austin Works. He's got a lot of knowledge of whereabouts and history on almost every A40 in the country. If you tell him all this info, he might be able to tell you who owns it, and details. Rob does an article in each issue of Gasser Wars Magazine.

Rob is the most knowledgeable Austin guy I know, and is doing quite a service for those of us who love the little British Austins! He's always free with info, and amazes me with all the Austin cars he knows about. Even those that fall outside the A40's like my Austin A10.

Wow, that's a name from my pass. I spoke to Rob a few years ago, wonder if he still have like 35 Austins. I used to own a Somerset and he helped me a lot. There was Austin Works East also, run by Doug (I forget his last name).
