Ok, so I have been checking out some of the "50s" period correct threads trying to figure out what i'm gonna do with the colors/wheels/etc. on my current build, I wanna go late 54 early 55. Are black walls 40s only? were white walls the trend in 54 55? rubber rake- I'm going with 5.25s up front, and 6.50s in the rear, correct? Stock height in the rear, reverse eye spring with stock axle up front? Gloss black paint, w/ a cream firewall? I'm not gonna be too picky, but I would like to know if I'm in the ball park. The only thing that "technically" dosn't fit is my 283, but I'm building it to look like a freshly pulled stock 265. Any pics will help, THANKS GUYS.
White walls would have been the trend, but blackwalls were still commonly used, they were just the cheaper option at the tire store. I don't think running black walls would exclude you from being period correct. Black paint is pretty timeless as well. You would have been at the very height of technology at the time to be running a 265 in 54/55, although I guess it was possible. I don't think any speed equipment would have been to market by then, so it'd be pretty much bone stock.
thanks man!!! also the wheels are ford steelies (black w/ beauty rings, and 46-48 caps) it seems like that was common for the time.
