I started a flat-tail sprint project a few years back, ('28 Chevy rails, '25 Dodge Elliott axle) The rails had to be 'doctored' at the kick-up, for that Essex look! 3 spring car, 'T' rear cross member & spring, 'A' rear axle. Kind of a 'tribute', as I built a dual sidedraft Weber 2-liter BMW 4 cyl for it... Shelved for awhile when my wife and I built the shop.
The Black & red car, is a car I did in the late '80's/ early '90's 270 Offy, 18" Dayton wheels, Essex frame, Chrysler Axle, Frankin steering & lot's of other good stuff
This is not boding well for me! I don't need any other distractions to all the stuff I have to do right now, but in the back of my head I'm remembering that I DO know where there are a pair of '27 Essex rails...
Pete... I marveled over that car in bare metal and thought it would be a shame to paint it... But, they really did a nice job on it... I can post more Pixs if anyone's interested
STUNNING!! What a car! That makes me want to drag my pile out of the barn and get going on it. Your level of work is an inspiration.
Pete , That looks GREAT!! you might think about some kind of heat shield on the exhaust where you arm will hang out? Burned elbows are not fun
Haha, I just sent Mr Eastwood a message asking the same thing. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Both the "Green" & the early "Schroeder" were based on the Franklin design. The "Green" was available in the late '20's & I think Schroeders were first available in the '40's I just saw Gary Schroeder saturday at a birthday party, I see him regularly, next time I'll ask him when they first came out. They are all just a glorified Franklin !! Pete
What a great looking car, so many fine components, and I zero in on the 26-27 T stop light, I worry about myself sometimes. Bob
Great build. So will the cross members eventually be riveted rather than bolted? Also found it interesting on how you fund your builds!
Built this from scratch about 20years ago for a customer. Waiting for seat to be stitched up at this point
Well it's been a year, & other stuff gets in the way. There has been progress. On the body, I made the cowl & belly pan, but with the tail I know my limitations. I had a really good metal shaper do the tail panels, top, bottom & sides. I gave him the tail buck on a stand, that way he could shape the panels to it, without having the car in the way. I just got them back & now its up to me to put it all together, without screwing it up !! Besides trying to make a living, some of the other stuff that got in the way. Fixing my Harley that got wrecked years ago. Racing vintage go karts. Begining the restoration on Jim Dunn's last dragster. ( After this car he switch to Funny Cars.) It's that damn ADD Pete
That tail has a nice roll to it! My old Riley was made the same way, a top and two side pieces. Hope it is in one piece for inspection in June. Bob
I'd say that with not changing your life style , your moving along quite well on your various projects . Looking forward to future posts .
It's all beautiful. I really like the tapered shapes of your pedal arms and control levers. Did you build those, or are they old pieces?
Hell yeah! I'm really excited to see more of these builds. There is a video out there called "Where they Raced" and is about early racing in California. Lots of great stuff.
