As the saying goes "a picture is worth a thousand words"; I'll let this picture speak for itself. A lot has been said as far as how things are going at this event and I took this picture at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the vendors hall. :( IMG_4437.JPG

Thanks Dean, and there were a lot more there than I photographed. I guess we each have the choice of how we want to view things, some of us like to take a more optimistic view, some not.

I was hoping to get a chance to say hi, but I guess you were checking out the swap meet at the time I came by.

Still getting around to the pics on my cel phone, these were from Walden's Speed Shop open house. I already posted some other pics from this event I took with a real camera, I just snapped these with the phone first. I was the first one there, which surprised me. I rolled in a little after 3 and only Walden's guys were there, trying to get things ready. They invited me in anyway, even though I was early. Really great people there. And the work they do is top notch, very impressive workmanship & engineering.

So, Saturday was Open House at Cambra Speed Shop/Reids Hot Rod Parts & at Jimmy Shines Workshop, both in the city of Orange, CA, about 1 mile apart. So I headed over the Cambra first after an early band rehearsal. Cambra is a cool shop, doing some nice work. I really like the Model A they had in the shop that's been a long term project. Attention to detail is very good. High quality craftsmanship throughout. Very nice.

Reids used to be located over next to CW Moss, a few miles away, I guess the guys at Cambra bought them out and brought the store over to their shop. It's nice to see somebody keep the store going instead of letting it go under.

My only complaint is the guys were less then welcoming, it was just a bit awkward. Same thing at Stokers 2 days before. It's strange that they'd have an "Open House", then be "stand offish" when people come in. I had the exact opposite reaction at both Walden's and Jimmy Shines, the folks there acted like everybody was a friend, invited you in, talked to you like they knew you. Stokers and Cambra could take a lesson....

    Anyway, enjoy the hot rods. 20180616_125522_HDR.jpg 20180616_125534.jpg 20180616_125545.jpg 20180616_125553_HDR.jpg 20180616_125603.jpg 20180616_125624.jpg 20180616_125637_HDR.jpg 20180616_125705.jpg 20180616_125713.jpg 20180616_125732.jpg 20180616_125748_HDR.jpg 20180616_125756_HDR.jpg 20180616_125841.jpg 20180616_125955.jpg 20180616_130104.jpg 20180616_130112.jpg 20180616_130211.jpg 20180616_130224.jpg 20180616_131857.jpg 20180616_131946.jpg 20180616_132004.jpg 20180616_132015_HDR.jpg 20180616_132154.jpg 20180616_132208.jpg 20180616_132213.jpg 20180616_132233_HDR.jpg 20180616_132239_HDR.jpg 20180616_132252.jpg 20180616_132312.jpg 20180616_132330.jpg

And finally, here's the shots from Jimmy Shine's workshop. Some really cool cars here, particularly the Old Yeller II car. I had a very cool long talk with the wife of the owner who described to me what life has been like since they took ownership of he car. They've flown all around the world showing the car or racing it, with many of the trips paid for by the clubs or the folks hosting the shows/races, they just want the car there; plus being treated like royalty, and meeting all kinds of famous people from the world of vintage cars and car racing, like every one of the past drivers of this car (all listed in one of the shots), as well as Stirling Moss, and others. Very nice people.

This next car is pushing things here at the HAMB, but technically it does just slip in to the right time frame, as these cars were premiered to the public in 1965. This is a very rare Toyota 2000 GT, examples of which, according to Wikipedia, have sold for more than $1M. The dude driving it was just coming out for the open house, not affiliated with Jimmy Shines.

    OK, back to regular coverage:
