Is any body out there doing La Salle transmission conversation to Early Ford? Thanks for all the help.

Are you wanting info about adapting the trans to a flathead? Or adapting the trans output to a torque tube?

I have a 1937 LaSalle backing up a 1951 Cadillac in my 1939 Ford Coupe - went with an open drive to a 9" rear. Offenhauser #3640 adapt er IMG_0929.JPG IMG_1177.JPG

Adapting to the torque tube is easy. I remember a how-to in an old magazine, showing the work being done with some chalk, a hack saw, and a drill. ;)

I have the adaptor and the trans. I like to find someone that has done the machine work on the main shaft and the case. Thanks for the help.

pretty basic stuff, use the link Tetanus provided to get a good idea of what's involved
one issue you may have is getting someone that can cut the hardened shaft.

I was lucky and found a couple already converted

  13. I have a '37 top shift in a '37 Cadillac (stock set up) and it leaks some oil from around the shifter tower, there is a seal of some type that goes in there. Can you buy that seal? if so where?

I have the very same problem with mine too, leaks from around the shift lever, all they had in there was a cork gasket of some sort,it cant be too big or it will jam up?I think it is one of those things that cant be fixed,it is really common on all these trannys.Mine leaks about a pint to every 1000 miles, have to keep an eye on it all the time,do you have the gasket in between the tranny and bellhousing, they will leak around the shaft too.

Mine leaks too, not nearly a pint per 1000 miles though.
I got the cup to tower and it's screws to seal with careful cleaning and silicone.
But I still get a very small amount out the shifter hole
where the shifter rides against the cup..

I had a similar leak at the shifter - took the old seal out and replaced with handmade new rubber seal - now IMG_1157.JPG leak free!
