This car was the one Tom Wolfe was referring to in the book "the candy colored tangerine flake streamline baby"

Not a popular sentiment, but the Marquis is an example of an historic car improved by modification.
(i.e., rear wheel wells). Hey, If it's wrong, it's just wrong! (Or maybe they should all be "restored" back to stock? :D)

I never knew. The Didia 150 was in the ford custom car caravan. I guess it has a 427 ford engine

The Didia was originally built with a 365 Caddy, which was replaced with a 427 and toured by FoMoCo.
Here is a good link. http://www.bobbydarin.net/bdcar-article1960.html

Incidentally, the first time I saw the Didia (built by the Clarkaiser shop) was on "American Bandstand", of all places. (Bobby Darrin connection.) It was then said to have diamond dust in the paint, and to have cost $150,000.
Driver error concerning the motor's electric fans caused a fiasco at a Hollywood media event, and tarnished the car's image, a real setback for the custom world.

    "Carried Away"
Car Craft top 10 Custom of 1963 (as featured in Feb '64 issue).
    A.K.A. the Jack Williams/Cort Elliot/Bruce Metcalfe/Terry Kong '51 Chevy.
Won big time at the 1962 Portland show as well as many other show throughout the West.

Still around with last owner of over 40 years, under going a restoration:

The builder Jack Williams, chopping the top with a hand saw:
The rest of the modifications were hammer welded, very little lead at all.

Fred Welsh's "Treasure" - a '40 Ford 4-door. Fred was a painter and the ride underwent many colour changes and modifications.
Final: Chromed frame, blown small block, Lincoln quad headlites and Caddy tailites.
One of the winningest customs up and down the west coast in the late 50's early 60's.
Also won big time at the 1962 Portland show.

Still around, the second owner has not shown it in over 40 years, stored in a storage compound:

    Another Vancouver BC custom.
ED Bressler's wild custom Hilman in the early 60's.
Constant show winner and Peoples Choice winner.

One of the first "flip-up" bodies on a tube frame. Cooling system ran through the frame.

In the summer months, the Hilman body came off, the back seats taken out and a C-cab body was installed with Indy Blue stripes on the back.

Ed painted it using a Hoover Constellation vacuum (remember those round vacuums) in reverse flow with a fab'd paint gun holder on the hose.

Unfortunately got cut up and is at the bottom of a lake. The c-cab and tube frame still exists in the Vancouver BC area.

Man, talk about hardcore desire! Working outside and using a handsaw to cut a top.
Next time I squawk about working outside and using my electric cutoff saw I'll remember this picture. Awesome car! E

Some really great pics on this thread!

I remember the CC coverage on this one. There was a by-line which said something to the effect of
"Old Timers avow the body work on Cort Elliot's Chevy to be the best ever!" Great that it is still around!
