    Great pix!
I believe this great Shoebox HT was lost in a fire, shortly after being built.

Besides the goof-ball top, the Chevy grille was a really nice addition.
(This is the first I've seen of the quad light version.)

Sad news here. Slim passed away this week. He was still very active in the Kustom car scene, in NJ, up until a couple years ago. Built a very smooth 40 Ford (I believe), hard-topped, painted a mellow yellow pearl. RIP, Slim.

Sadly, Ray Goulart's owner-built Olds was destroyed last year in the Malibu fires.

    Ex-convertible, Nailhead power.

Incidentally, Ray's brother, Lee Roy, was the owner of this famous Winfield-built Ford.
Note the one piece, curved glass windshield.

Here is a shot from 1965 , it just sickens me when I hear about another old Hot Rod or Custom that got destroyed in the "California Fires" or any fire or other disasters anyplace. 20190504_174652.jpeg

Man, I wish, WISH, I had the parts and the ability to do this to the grandpa car. I LOVE the look of the one-piece windshield. I think they used a '52 or '53 Ford, maybe...

    EDIT: Yep, '52 Ford https://www.customcarchronicle.com/custom-cars/leroy-goulart-shoebox-1/#.XM5MzGhKg2w

Bob Hoffman's Chevy (Portland, Ore.) was a classic, converted to a HT from a two door post.
BUT, it was not chopped. This photo has been tweaked

Below is the photo as it actually appeared, on the cover of R&C in 1958.

The car saw regular drag action with a hot 261 truck 6, Corvette tri-carb and dual exhaust manifolds, snd '37 Packard trans. Suspension was said to be "adjustable", but was never elaborated. (I have heard that it was rather rudimentary: to raise the car, the rear lowering blocks were removed, and the front uprights were swapped side-for-side).

The car later received further magazine coverage, sporting a radical flame paint job (applied in 1959).

This custom "Mini" Terraplane/DeSoto was decades ahead of its time.

Note that it has also been radically narrowed.

Incredibly, owner George S. Brauks, a foundry pattern maker, cast his own motor.
The 115 cu. in. Straight 8 had a head that was only 22" long.

    Owner -cast hub cap.

Here's a little something on that previously posted Chevy, I always liked that one especially the way it's set up for racing only noticable once you look in side or under the hood....but I tell you ...that Gary Overby 40 Chevy has got my Jean's all bumped up...thank you. 20190507_190605.jpeg 20190507_190656(0).jpeg 20190507_190734.jpeg 20190507_190750.jpeg
