I find it interesting that the signature fender flares on this Doug Thompson-built Beauty
were the result of a front-end swap to a (wider) Nova sub-frame.

This one was in a magazine I looked through and a question of what's with the top..?? Maybe it's the seem in the magazine but something is off....then I noticed the B-piller ......are they trying to pass that off as a slanted B - Piller ? There's no reference to it as being that in the description of the car....just me I guess...reason I was looking through the mag is I was doing a little research for a 49 Merc model that I'm doing it came already chopped and it has the same look to its top as the magazine car ... I don't know ... I thinking of slanting the Piller on the model thinking it might help it flow a little better...just saying ....sorry I know this isn't the modelers thread ... I will quit sniveling now..moving on.... IMG_20181229_022025_1~2.jpeg IMG_20181229_022112_1~2.jpeg IMG_20181229_023251~2.jpeg

Here's some Kool stuff...try to make up for that last post... I have always liked seeing old Kustoms or new/old in there more natural state of actually being driven, under construction, or just being normal transportation, or just driving down the road as the sun is coming up after a long night of Kruizin ...... 1546071071145529502522.jpeg 15460705478181539982933.jpeg 15460815437261580847122.jpeg 15460817515331341771928.jpeg 15460816981451389168422.jpeg 15460818549201151966624.jpeg 1546071468850507257214.jpeg

Not sure about the pillar, but the (very round) top shape must be somewhat related to the back-slanted windshield&frame... Not commonly done on these mercs, I think? After raking the front glass, they must have used a different-than-usual technique to put the roof pieces back together... And the b-pillar was probably an afterthought. Nonetheless, interesting to see such an approach... A 49-51 merc deserves a flatter roof though, this one breaks the 'flow'. Maybe it would work with a bumperless + rolled pan + hot rod rake treatment... Pancaked hood, or hoodless...

The model you posted lacks flow because it has no rearward taper to the top.
Chop the back and you're home. (No need to cut the A pillars or catwalk, as they will keep everything square.)
Additionally, the car pictured in your post appears to have a more severely raked windshield.

Here is another, but with drip rail and slanted B pillars.
(The rear window has also been moved forward,)

Thanks for the input on that guy's .. I thought maybe it was just me...it was late or very early morning figured I was just being a bitch about it...who am I to judge...but there is this thing I have about chopped cars ..if it's going to be chopped it's got to have flooowww or flooohh ....and Mo the model tip's are great and I definitely got to say the second one has got it.... I'm a big fan of the slanted B Piller it just makes it right......Thanks

I was always intrigued by the "Golden Penny", considering the car was actually pink!
(And displayed by a model with matching pink hair.)

Owner Tom Leichty later bought the Clarkaiser built "Utopia", and finished it off in similar fashion.
