Very interesting. I would call this a 'Heartless' "tribute car". Many obvious similarities.
(Million tooth grill, elaborate rear fender scoops, inverted front bumper and Merc tail lights, etc.)
Many obvious differences. (Front fender scoops and wheel lips, extended hood, paint and interior interior motif, etc.)

It will be interesting to see if the new owner further personalizes the concept.

I always felt that rounded hood corners may have looked better with the molded grille shell, but the above solution is nice as well.

This early version (below) is actually my favorite, door handles and all.. I really like the lighter color under the trim (as was true in all the Watson versions).

The heartless didn't have the scoops, olds headlight trim, or merc taillights. That said I really like that car. Yep heartless 13 teeth, grapevine 17

  20. Pretty much I'm going to keep it just like it is...although my wife thinks Jessica rabbit at least needs a sweater. ;) I have a 49 Fleetline that I had intended to do a Grapevine inspired build on, but have not made much progress. I saw this car and thought, "Hmmm, here's a car very close to the idea I was already going with that is totally finished for less than I could build mine for...I might need to check this out." :) Real excited to start logging a lot of miles on the car and having two drivers in the fleet instead of just projects. LOL I'll be adding AC pretty quick, but other than that, I'll not be making any changes to it until the time comes that I have worn it out and it needs a freshening. :D

Interestingly, Myron (the builder and previous owner) set out to do more of a Grapevine style build with the scallops, but Randy Rhodes had finished his clone and Myron saw no need for two clones. So, he backed up to the Heartless version but flipped the colors with the lavender on top and the grape on the bottom. I think it looks great as a tribute and will be a great companion to my Hirohata tribute....when I get that far down the road with the Merc. Lol

Where can I get headlight trim rings like that, anyone know? They look like one-piece to me?

  26. Brown Sound, those are 1955 Oldsmobile headlight rings.

  27. 56 Olds headlight rings have a slight peak to them and are the ones used on the Grapevine. 55 Olds rings are smooth and are the ones used on the Lavender Lady. Both are great looking headlight rings.
