  6. Great shots @Dan Greenberg! Looks like that would have been a fun show to go to....just my speed...lots of kustoms. :)

Interesting car Mick. Lots I would have done different way back when, but would totally restore to just like it was now.

Thanks @drdave. They don't always have this many kustoms, David, but this year it was the theme. They have had a pretty good selection of them the 3 years I have been going.

This one looks so much like Bill Hoffman's classic.

As a teenager, it took me a while to realize that its unique look was due to removing the B-Pillar from a sedan.

The small rear window may give it a shoebox appearance, but both cars are actually Mercs.

  15. I am certain it was the inspiration. Way too similar to not be!

  16. Some interesting features on this one.

Are the louvers punched in instead of out? (recessed)
Is the trim insert mother of pearl?

  17. I like this car!

With the exception of the grill that is. It almost appears to me that it was a billet "street rod".
    Another possible "un-dorkifying" going on....

Come on, grasshopper. ;) The '53-'54 Chevy hardtops have the more wrap-around rear window with a heavier c-pillar. Those posted earlier are both "hardtopped" 2 door ("post") sedans.

Just yanking your chain. All in good fun!

LOL!!! I guess my "Merc Goggles" have clouded my vision.
Looking at your example it is obvious. Just never took the time to look at it and study the details.

  21. "Merc Goggles"...........now that's funny! E

  22. Vent windows are also flat across the top on a hardtop.
Not to mention the lower roof height.....

  23. Great shots Dan and Straycat!!

Speaking of the hardtop's lower roof height, I suspect that a hardtop windshield was used for this oh- so-subtle top chop on the black sedan Dan posted earlier. (Compare it to the stock sedan roof beside it.)

No shame in that. Like I said, it took me a while, too. (Albeit, some decades ago.)
That's why I pointed it out!

This car was also done by Von Hunter out of Portland Oregon

  30. It is indeed a Saskatoon car! Giles Beauchamp is the owner/builder.
Here he is with the half-built project..

and a couple of pics from my files. I believe it is a '39 with a '40 cowl.:

The grill was due to the scarcity of a reasonably priced original and wanting to create something unique as well. I thought the melding of a couple of old wishbones to hold the tail lamps was kind of clever as well!
