Send Dan a PM. My copy of his kustoms calendar arrived the other day and it's very nice.

This kustom has been on my mind, love Merle Berg's '55 Chevy.

  4. I dig Merle's '55.

Not to critique but I liked it better before the paint. Would have liked to have seen it in a solid color, maybe Titian Red.....

  7. Hey straykat, is Merle's Chevy flat black now or are these older pictures? Always loved his '55. Another favorite of mine is the Ray Bozarth Buick that he built. Believe it or not, all the kustom shows I've been to, Ray has always had a different car there and I've never seen it in person! Can't wait to see it someday.
Merle is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. So much talent, yet ever so humble.
I always enjoy sitting down and having a conversation and catching up with him--usually at the Spectacular. E

  8. Ed, I can't believe you've never seen Ray's Buick. He had it at the CCR a couple years ago. Totally awesome car. I think it may make my top 10 of favorite customs

  10. Ed, those photos are old. It has color- changing paint now. I went to find a photo for you and came across this one from Rik's site. Don't know where or when this was taken but check it out: on the right is the Knight Rider! W.E.H.T #20.

  11. That is the "Lost Angels Childrens Project" raffle car from 2015. It was given away at Ventura.

  13. I've been thinking about that and it really is strange. I've been to a half dozen Leadsled Spectaculars and it has never been there.
My luck, if I get to the CCR next year, Ray will have a different car there (lol)!
I was always amazed reading the construction story about it in LeRoi Tex Smith's book on building customs. A true labor of love, but man, I'm sure it was worth all the work and money to finish it! E

I figured it was an old picture. I can't imagine changing the paint. It really is beautiful!
Wow, the ol' Night Rider! I went and dug into my magazines real quick and I found that Merle's '55 was on the cover as well as featured in the May '99 issue of Custom Rodder. So, I think it would be safe to say this picture was taken no earlier than '98, but who knows how late it could have been.
You have to know that Merc is still out there somewhere........E

These two shots were taken in June 1979 at Joe Madden Ford in Downers Grove, Illinois.

  15. quick85, those shots are awesome! What was going on? Some kind of promotion?

Were they for sale. I notice the Olds has signs on it.

I posted old pictures of Merle's '55 Chevy, because I hadn't seen them in a while. I like it painted but the flat black just makes the Kustom look so evil. Ray's Buick is amazing to see in person. So many kustom touches to take in that pictures don't do it justice.

I get to talk to Merle at the KKOA Spectacular and I always look forward to our conversation. Great kustomizer even a better person.

Was the red Merc one of Miles Mesa cars? Looks familiar.

Sancho, thanks. It was a Sunday parking lot show at the end of June that year, back in a time when
there weren't fifteen shows a weekend to choose from.

Slopok, I don't know for sure but from the license plate it's probably a good assumption. For some
reason I seem to remember hearing the '59 Impala was a product of Miles' shop. Joe Madden Ford
was on the corner of Ogden and Belmont, and I believe Miles had a shop just north of 55th Street
on Belmont. Maybe all four rides represent his work.

  22. I checked out Rik's file on Miles and the Merc's and the Chevy are definitely his.
    Don't know about the Oldsmobile......

I appreciate the info. Too often I don't take notes or I misplace the darn things.
