Here is my 39 Special that I recently acquired. 454 with a 700 trans. Unlike other cars I’ve had, I only had to travel 15 minutes to get this one!

    Hello,

We have been around for many years and have seen plenty of custom cars. We grew up in a family that had primarily Buick sedans from 1941 on to 1983. All makes and sizes from fastbacks to 4 door sedans to cool Rivieras and final a sporty bucket seat. (Buick Regal Sport Coupe) (10 Buicks from 1941-83)

They were all my dad’s choices for his daily driver. My brother and I always wanted something to put on the stock big Buick sedans, chrome wheels for the 4 doors and American Racing 5 spokes for the 1963 and 68 Riviera Sedans. But, our dad just liked them stock in appearance. We once went with him to a Buick dealer and our mom almost convinced him to get a 56 Buick Skylark with those cool wire wheels.

I even told him that I would put on my set of Skylark Wire Wheels on my converted axles and drums from the 58 Impala on his Riviera in 1963-64. But, he was told those did not hold a balance very well, had consistent leaks, and would be difficult for long distance driving like he did daily. As much as he liked our 58 Impala, He nixed both of those ideas...

But, as the years went by, custom Buick sedans were not the car of choice for cruisers or hot rod guys.

We saw this cool looking custom Buick sedan sitting in an industrial area with a great looking background. Tropical So Cal fit the bill as the ocean was only two blocks away.

The look and attitude of the old Buick sedan was what most people did to their customs back in the late 50s and early 60s. The usual suspects were, simple chrome wheels, lakes side pipes, lowered stance, a few interior/exterior modifications, and wide white wall tires. This was a modern day version of what the late 50s customs looked like. But, due to the fact that the Buick is sitting so low to the ground, it probably has some suspension modifications like air bags or an old hydraulic system, popular with the Lowrider group in So Cal.

The detailing and faded primer purple paint was either a preliminary stage or the builder decided to do a matte finish on the bright purple color. The detail accessories fit right into the traditional custom car look from that early era.

There is that fellow in Finland who took a '47 Roadmaster Sedanette and made into a coupe. Just read the article in Ol'Skoll Rodz magazine, yeah a magazine!

The fellows name is Petri Terhos.

While this is a thread on custom Buicks, here is quite possibly a really stupid question. I am wondering if a, Olds 88 front fender is interchangeable with a 1953 Buick Special?
I love my 53 Buick but i love the 53 Olds 88 headlamp and marker lamp design.

That would look cool. If they are interchangeable I think you're still going to have some metalwork to do because of different bodylines (grille surround and down at the trailing edge leading to the rocker). It might be easier just to trim the front 6-8" off the Olds fenders around the headlight doors and marker lights and graft them into your Buick fenders. And if you want the lip around the wheel opening you can do the same there. I'm sure you'll find someone that wants those '53 Buick headlight doors for their project as well.

Thanks for the info! The other problem is finding those fenders, lol! Not gonna give up on the idea. I'll keep looking around.
