Ok - I know there was some great coverage of the event last month here.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=434628 But I just had to share these stunning photos with the HAMB! Last month we held the 2nd Annual Jalopy Dust Up. Hot Rods and Pre-65 sedans, vintage midgets and stock cars on the dirt track which has to have one of the best views of any race track in the world. We limited it to 40 cars, racing cat & mouse style (start opposite sides of the track and then chase each other). 2 big nights at the local pub with bands and burleque dancing. We had 3 "incidents" during the day - nobody was hurt. At the end of the day we took the cars out in groups of 18 with the pace truck for photos... ever seen burnouts on clay? Wicked.... Mark this one down on your calendar - Jan 8 & 9 2011. Enjoy the action! Noddy
THAT'S ALL FOLKS! Amazing quality... Thanks to Nigel Watts for the great photos. And sorry if I blew your dial up.... Noddy
Looks like fun. Some of the first oval racing gassers / altereds I've ever heard of - not to mention what to appears to be an ex-orchard tending semi-phaeton with the interior on the outside I've ever laid eyes on. Gary
I know altereds/gassers on the Dirt track sounds crazy - but they actually kicked ass! And that Tub is actually an ex-Bakersfield USA car.... but I'm not too sure on the history. Noddy
The Dust Up is the weekend before Kumeu, and I hold the "World's 1st Car & Bike Show" the weekend before it on Jan 1st - makes the big trip worthwhile!
If there had been a race car in the movie Grapes of Wrath, that tub would have been it! That thing is just a hoot. Gary
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!! You guys have some KICK ASS cars down there.....looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing.
Damn, all that and an ocean view. I'm selling everything but my car and motorcycle and leaving on the next boat out. Looks like a blast.
It sure would be good to get some history on it. Anyone from the Bakersfield, Ca area know anything about it? I liked the way the manual hand signal came out as he flew it around the corners in a skid! Noddy
