Justin's 1930/1 Model A Roadster build thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 510madmav, Jul 29, 2010.

  1. I'm not a welder, so you can take this with a grain of salt, and the rest of the guys can chew my ass out if I'm wrong: I think you're supposed to leave a gap, even if you chamfer, in a situation where you're welding a thick part like your torque tube. The reason why, I've read, is that as the weld cools it needs the space to move, and a tight fit may cause a crack in the area.

The bottoms are BLC 682 J's and the top look like 30's Chevy. Both are nice pairs. Run the BLC's.

Thanks! Neither have any badging, the red an grey ones have Ford lenses. What year or car do you estimate the blc's?

The first headlights look like mid-30's Ford pickup - they will be the bulb and reflector style, not a sealed beam.

The 682-J's in the second picture were marketed by both Guide and BLC - usually they had a small name tag riveted to the top of the bucket, but not always. Do a search and you'll find endless information about them on both the HAMB and the net. They use a standard sealed beam. They were not stock to any cars, but rather sold aftermarket post '39 - many were used to replace the bulb and reflector style used prior to the first sealed beam headlights. The 682-c headlights (similar only with a marker light on top) were used on several makes of post 1939 trucks (White, Reo, etc.) and it may be that the 682-j's also came stock on some trucks as well.

Next time you are in the shop you should get some full body shots of the project how it sits. I'd love to see how the roadster stands currently

looks great man. Been watching this from the start and I cant wait to see some driving down the road shots. Back to the truck not being a chick magnet. The one that the truck does attract will be one you will want to hold on to.
