Yes it would create resistance therefore causing drag equaling slow or make funny noises...:p. If running on the street with 'the look' of the day one would at least hope the direction of the louver would push on and not pull off therefore you would have to have two with opposite direction for the other side...if it was even a consideration.

This is also a vintage show car and we all know that some louver everything...even today...

Other than what Veterans of some the most celebrated and cherished period of Hotrod/Custom share in story the pics help in making it a full circle even if it generates a what were they thinking...

    A Sleek Inspirer

The 1939- A win at Indianapolis

The first product of the Orsi-Maserati era was unveiled in March 1938. This was the 8CTF (8 Cylinder Fixed Head). Maserati saw its first American victory in 1939 with their 8CTF model, renaming it “The Boyle Special.” Maserati was the first Italian manufacturer to win the prestigious title, and they succeeded in repeating the feat the following year.

I don't know how to post pics, but to see some creative louvers, go to my web site olympicspeedsters.com then click on "Gallery", then "Fabrication" then "Louvering". Some of the speedsters and my daily driver CCPU, shown, also have my louvers.

  11. Here are some on a five window I once owned. My favorite louvers are these on the trunk lid that are more rounded than straight across. IMG_8209.JPG IMG_8245.JPG IMG_8238.JPG

  17. Just built myself a press for louvres and punches . Made a little LP brace for My Tudor. Just learning how to use it . Will play with it a bit more before tackling something complicated. Blue

All great information Mike as you know this thread is about period correct Hotrod / Custom louvers. The whole experience is welcome.

I like to see the machines you guys use in the rendering of your craft. Some are pretty jazzed up just like a hotrod. Thanks Mike.

    Great job Joyflea...

Nice teaser 61...the lid looks bang on...;)
Is the lid from your Hotrod?

I thought of an old Hamb favourite by the name Coupe de Cab but it has no louvers or handle on lid...

I,built the buck full size. Make templets of both existing ends. Transfer to the buck. Next using heavy paper from Home Depot placed over the hood area cut for an exact fit. Be sure to mark the centerline on the paper templet. Paper from HD is used to protect floors
I used my English wheel with a rubber top wheel to make the curves I used 20 gauge steel.
When bending this way spring back will be minimal
Cut the metal about 3/8" larger on all sides then cut to size after final fit up. I have a tool that I made to trace the outline of the ends ov the hood. Made of two half inch wide by three inch long pieces of plastic .090" thick. The lower piece is bent down on one end about 1/4" to ride against the hood opening the top piece has a hole drilled in it right above the bent down lower piece. The two strips are fastened together at the other ends
    Hope this helps
