Well thank God for safe returns. I am so thankful to the Lord for bringing me back to my wonderful wife, our soon to be baby girl, our 11 year old daughter and all of my family and friends. I have been deployed to Afghanistan for the last few months now, and let me just say it was a long, hot deployment filled with loud bangs and bright lights.

But I am back now and that is all done and over with. After 5 deployments in 5 years I am ready to retire from the Marines and that will be a reality in just 3 short years.

However right before I left I struck a deal with a friend of the family up in Oregon to buy his 1940 Chevy Master 85 2 dr sedan. It has been sitting in a barn for the last 25 years and is in need of some TLC to say the least. But it still fires and runs. My old man went up to where it has been sleeping for so very long and pulled it out. All the brakes were frozen of course but over all it is very clean and rust freen. My plans for the beast are to update the drive train with a 54-55 235, dual carbs, open drive and a 4 or 5 speed trans. It will be a very dark red with wide whites but I have yet to figure out the wheels I am going to use. Other then that it will be driven and enjoyed by me and my family.

  2. I certainly understand. I did two tours in the rice paddies. And I want you to know that this old vet appreciates your service and the sacrifices you and your family have made. You have done your share. Now it is time to build that hot rod you were dreaming about when you were over there.

Welcome home...did that more than 40 years ago...for me, starting on a car days after getting back was the best medicine for forgetting what I had done and seen. That old stovebolt will be more than a car, if your experience is like mine...it is (along with your family) the road to the rest of your life...AND THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!

My Son starts his Afgan Deployment in a couple of months. Earlier this year he did a stint in Kuwait. I am very proud of him and his choice to serve, as I am of you and your service. Since I am reasonably close, don`t hesitate to PM me if you think I could be of some help with your new project.....
