Glad to see that it isn't just me.

Those posts just have "I am a dumb ass" written all over it.

This is similar to the response to the what it is worth threads with, "Whatever someone is willing to pay". What is the point of the comment?

I just don't get it guys! I've been on here for over 10 years, and if I ask a sensible question I get maybe 5-10 answers. Some newbie shows up, asks a really dumb question and you're all falling over yourselves to answer him.
Let's get back to hot rodding guys, and leave the nattering to school kids.

There are already a few '49-51 Merc picture threads out there...
Let's all use the search function and see what a 49-51 Mercury looks like.

I think we've beaten this expired horse.

Here is a case where on that black bad Mercury blackwall tires would look cool and make the car even badder looking. Almost scarry. They should have used one for Christine..

    No risk of cool here...

  18. I always thought the reason so many people customized the 49-50 mercs is because they are so ugly that something had to be done to make them look better! (same with shoe box Fords)

  21. That is verging on a reason not to like them. Zupan/Barris fucked up probably the nicest Merc ever built with this version of the car. Nothing that couldn't have been undone but compared to the two versions when Bettancourt owned it this is a travesty.

    Lots of good answers.
    Lots of smart assed answers.
    Lots of stupid answers.
Mine is somewhere in the middle. For the same reason 32 Fords and 40 Fords are coveted............... Duh!;)
But I'd rather have a 51 Mercury cause they look different.

The songs, the movies, the copycat kustoms all came later. Mercurys were cool from day one. Gonna buy me a Mercury.

It`s like asking why males like Boobs. When you see a good looking Merc, they seem to attract your attention. And there are a lot of them. There are a lot of Iconic cars. The 32 Ford, The 40 Ford. The 55-57 Chevys. the 59 Cad. the GTO`s or the Chevelles. I`m Not much of a muscle car guy though. then there`s the Dusenbergs and Rolls Royces. People who are not familiar with cars seem to like these cars. Went to a show with my brother, who was drawn to like the Nomad. He asked me why. I said, Because it is the coolest station wagon ever made. He was able to pick out every Nomad in the show. 55 threw 57. He didn`t know the difference between the three but he liked them and could tell they were Nomads. The same goes for the MERC`S.

    Ed,
It is because you ask such complicated questions....LOL:D:D:D

  29. I can't figure it out, they're supposed to be hot, but anything I've had anything to do with, it may as well be a 1985 Mercury Lynx as a 49-51 Merc. I still have enough parts to make a sedan into a coupe, just sitting, can't get even a silly offer on them. And a couple of rough Woodie body panels, have had a couple folks interested but then they want me to ship the stuff instead of picking it up.

IMO, stanlow69 hit it pretty close, left out Camaro's, Why are All the Iconic cars, the one's I like, Don't Know, Don't care, Just Do, Cars are like girls, all of them are beautiful in someone's eyes, I do also appreciate, a lot of the "Odd" cars, all Hot Rods, Kustoms for the passion, efforts, put in them... Music, Car magazines, cars at shows, street cars from our youth, I believe, had and have influence on all of us old timers and the young guns are forming their likes today, but IMO, The Spirit of "Hot Rodding" is about individuality, creative passion for your minds eye and that's my story and I'm sticking to it...
