I have been looking into trying my hand at gas welding, and the Smith AW1 torch was a recommended unit to use. I found this one on ebay and it came with an AW 204 tip. I want to try my hand at sheet metal first, and would like recommendations on what tips to use. I don't know if the AW 204 is too big, so any help will be appreciated. Thanks, that's just what I was looking for! Funny, they don't list the tip that is coming with my torch, the AW 204? Guess it really isn't what I want for sheet metal work, though, so I'll get a AW 201
Second question, are these what I need for safe use of the torches? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oxygen-Acet...883726?hash=item567e57ff8e:g:yUkAAOSwMTZWR6gl
It's not uncommon for the valve stem seals on old torches to be shot , check w/soapy water with the valves on ...if they're leaking you could end up w/a handful of flame .. dave
You'll love it, you might consider the Smith's kevlar hoses at some point. They are so much more nimble than standard hoses.
I have looked at those and like them, but I want to see if I'm any good at this before spending more money on it!
