I was hesitant to start another 55 Gasser style build but have been assured that it is just what the H.A.M.B needs so here it goes! I bought a pretty decent 150 Utility sedan last year with the intention of making a gasser out of it. [IMG]

Cool Project but also a great deal of hard work and sweat.

The 55 looks decent how much did you have to pay for one in that condition it you don't mind my asking?

Here in Florida I see guys with old 68 camaro's on trailers that are complete rust buckets asking anywhere between $7,500 and $9,500 dollars.

With the recession going on I think a lot of guys are holding off building anything right now.

One the guys who really wanted to build his own car through in the towel and went over to Daytona for the last Turkey Run car show and brought one for $26,000 dollars.

He told me it's cheaper right now to just buy one then to build one.

I know most guys love building their own car but for others it just does not make sense right now doing it.

  7. No such thing as too many 55 Chevy gassers builds. Looks like your off to a great start! Keep those posts coming.

The spindles are Dodge D100/A100 and the axle is .250 c/moly. I decided to use CJ5 springs in this car, my 210 really did not ride bad with the CJ2/3 springs but the extra length on these make them seem even better.

A previous owner had cut off the bellhousing mounts so I scrounged a set and put them back on. It was an advantage because I was able to put the motor where I wanted. I have a TKO600 that I installed with a McLeod scattersheild and block plate once that was done I roughed in a rear trans mount.[IMG]

In my 210 I used an 8 3/4 mopar rearend with Calvert split mono springs and cal-tracs. That setup worked well but the 2 1/2" wide spring required that I fabricate front and rear hangers which was not a huge deal but I decided not to this time. Being that I plan on radiusing the 1/4's and will have no clearence issues with the springs I just replaced the springs and am going to make my own housing floaters and buy a good set of ladder bars.[IMG]

Got the rearend out the car and the new housing set in. I am going to use a Dana 60 and stay with my Mopar rear theme. Keeps the 4 1/2 bolt pattern all the way around with the front axle. [IMG]

I got the perches cut off the Dana housing and the floaters made and tacked onto the housing.[IMG]

Jimbo, working on cars for me is a release. I could not afford to buy a car flat out because like most here I have to spread the cost way out over time. Secondly, we all have in our mind what something will turn out like or at least what we hope it will turn out like. That is the joy for me, I enjoy trying to live up to what my mind has invisioned.

  20. Nice build, can't have to many gassers that race , for sure

I've decided that I will stay with my 200s's in the rear and am going to run a pair of Crestline 15x4's that I have. Anybody have any good ideas on running the 5x5 1/2" pattern on my Dodge hub? Does not look like there is enough area on the hub to redrill to the large pattern. Maybe I should repattern the wheels. I am open to any suggestions.[IMG]

Got the rearend housing bolted in and tires on the rear. Once I get the ride height set I can radius the quarters![IMG]

Don't get me wrong I love radius'd wheel wells, but that thing looks Bad F'n Ass! Damn I could dig that! Nice work!

  29. Just finished reading and smiling over the pics.........I have to agree building even these days is still in my favor.....not only getting to do what you envision but it actually is a large part of the joy......to me the 55's are it....just plain and simple....like they were destined to be Hot Rodded in gasser/straight axle stance. Now that my adrenaline is on release mode I really need to concentrate on my 55's and 7's. Time is my big roadblock though. Hey, thanks for the thread.....I'm a fan:D:cool:.
