Well its getting down to short strokes, and I figured I would put the new wheel combo on it and get that sorted before we left. but that made me think, and I wondered, would the top look good in white with all the black on the car, and the dark mags? so thanks to the fact its just a rattlecan away from whatever color I want, I shot it in flat black. and, I kinda dig it. me and dad drove down to st joe, to test it out, and it worked ok. I guess it will have to. Arizona, here we come! .
Don't you worry your little head about it, none of the wheels on it currently are for it, so the old wheels/tires will be back. I really just need to sell some stuff and buy new front whitewalls for it. but for now, this set will work.
Money is always tight, but this might be worthwhile. I'll tell you from experience that they do work but also affect performance. At least they do on bikes. https://supertrapp.com/shop-products/accessories/acc-3disc As mentioned in the trip thread I'm off the planned route, but if you want contact info, PM me.
They also work on cars. We have had a set on a 32 with small block chevy for 16 years. The only issue I have found is the bolts are small and seem to seize up which limits tuning the sound.
Yeah, those bolts! They will teach you about stainless fasteners, heat, anti-sieze, retorquing, tight tolerances and bent parts. It is a good product, but very unforgiving of just slapping it together and forgetting it.
Hi again folks. don't worry, I haven't left yet. I have been driving it more... Unfortunately my battery took a final dump, and even after my hour drive the other night (13 volts the whole time) it still didn't have enough power to start the car the next morning. so I paid mike to run up to Speedway and get a new battery for me (he needed some parts too) and while he was there, I had him pick up some turnouts for the pipes. they look kinda ridiculous and add so much width, that I have to take them off to get the car into my garage. but, When pointed the correct way they do direct a little bit of the noise away from the cabin, so I may use them for the trip. . . we'll see. The real news was later that day, when the clutch/trans made the same grinding noise that made me decide to pull the other trans out. As you can imagine, I was less than happy about it. But I assumed that I had a problem with the clutch/ throwout bearing, since it followed after I swapped transmissions. I ordered a clutch kit from Rock auto, and then was the wait. I told Mike, If it was here today on Wednesday, I would start, but any later, I didn't think I would. This morning at 9:00 AM, the fed-ex man dropped it off. So I called Mike and he came by at about 2 pm. We pulled the motor strap in place, and in less than 30 minutes from starting to jack it up, we had the trans laying on the ground, and we found the REAL problem. see that pile of junk at the front? that's what's left of the roller pilot needle bearing. after we removed the clutch, and pressure plate, we then spent the next 2 hours trying to get the outer part of the bearing out. this list of things that we tried includes, grease and a punch, heating it, prying it, and finally I made a tool that had a hook on it, that I could hook into the small edge on the face, and beat a piece welded on the end, Sorta like a homemade Slide hammer. after we got it out, we replaced it with a solid pilot bushing, and started bolting it back together. Once Dad got off work he pitched in and helped get stuff stuck back together. And finally at 8pm, we rolled it out, and fired it up. I drove it down the street and back, and It didn't make any weird noises, and (crosses fingers, knocks on wood) didn't pop out of first gear. Hopefully This is the last time I have the trans out. t-minus 3 days. . here we go. .
That's one of those changes made over time I didn't quite understand. A bushing can take a lot of abuse in a harsh environment. A roller bearing, especially one that isn't a sealed unit isn't as happy with heat changes, dirt and grit, and only factory lube.
About a week ago I had to warn Joey that I may not be able to go on this trip due to work issues. I have a boss that was waffling back and forth as to whether I was going to be needed at a meeting this coming Monday which would mean I wouldn’t be able to go. I looked into flights to meet him in Phoenix like I did last year for the roundup and ride back to Ok with him. There was nothin avail on Tuesday and he would probably be on his to Ok anyways. There were flights Monday afternoon but not late enough in the day for the meeting to be over. I will still be attending the show, but in my own car which would have felt weird to be there without it. I hope Joey offers to have me be a copilot in his next crazy adventure. The whole 1,000 miles back to Joey’s from the Roundup all I could do was dream about building my own roadster. Even though we were cold and driving in the rain for a good part of the trip. See you Thursday buddy. Safe travels.
well we are here, the night before. Greg Davis stopped into town to see dad and go to a local cruise, So I made A minute of time to stop by and say hi. I almost had him talked into taking Jason's spot, but no dice once he got in it, said he would probably only make it 300 miles. So I made it back home and finished packing. All I have left is to try to catch a couple hours of sleep, and then throw ice in the cooler and hit the road. 3 am is gonna come mighty early. Tune into my Instagram for live updates, and we'll see how far I get tomorrow, If I have service i'll post here. Wish me luck.
Last update he was 750 miles in. Broke an exhaust rocker and is sleeping in a new friends camper. seems to be meeting a lot of new people. this is an excellent road trip to follow along with it’ll make a great post when he returns
Fixed and back on the road a couple hours ago. Think he was getting like 19.5 mph running 80. I think it’s probably got most of the kinks smoothed out now. If not it’ll hold until he gets to Arizona and some stay put time.
No problem I’m sure he will post after the trip with loads of little stories and photos but for those who want to make sure he’s ok I’ll post some litttle updates. I think he’ll be in the Phoenix area for a couple days so he may pop in and update us.
Great picture! The snorty lil troublemaker that's rough around the edges poking through the background of all the finished fenderless rods.
I wonder what's causing that? To big a cam? Heavy springs... Watching with interest. Hope help comes quickly
Napa should have them but the local store doesn’t have inventory viewable on the website he’s gonna have to wait til they open
