Should be taking ownership of a 1953 Phymouth Belvedere this weekend. By far the oldest vehicle I've owned. Still has the Chrysler 218 flathead 6 in it, and still running on a 6 volt system.

My question is should I go out and get a 6 volt battery to assess the condition of the motor, beyond "can I turn it by hand". Or should I first do a 12 volt conversion and then start working on the engine?

Eventually it will be converted and I would like to add some modern amenities to it, but should I first take a look at the engine and see if I can get it running and perhaps putter around town in it for a bit under 6 volt power. Optimistically assuming success of course.

    Thanks
