Join my club?

Well, since I'm going to have these plaques made I should probably have one member beside myself! It wil be a raised 3-D plaque, that I wanted to have an early Tex Avery cartoon feel to it. This was just a rough sketch that I wanted to see what you guys think about it. "TORQPEDOS" is supposed to have that military feel that was so strong in the post WWII hot rod boom period. Not really looking for club members- just feels weird having plaques made with no club, but the opportunity came up to do them for a magazine story-so I'm running with it. Be kind- I freehanded this from the top of my head in about 10 minutes tonight. Thanks Jim

 

im with ryan the letters should be leaning forward with air streams coming off them

 

I'm open to suggestions- just didn't have a chance to study my WWII Nose Art book again. There's lots of fonts in there I like. Thanks Jim

 

also maybe put three or six carb stacks on top in stead off the fin my .02

 

I thought about the prop but didn't want to kill it with details they couldn't reproduce in aluminum. I thought I could add an actual hand made prop to it after it's cast that actually spins. Thanks for the input on the font- It will definitely be changed! Thanks Jim

 

That would remind me of both the turtle that raced Bugs bunny and the little taxi cab that wanted to be a Hot Rod! I'll try it and see how it looks. I do like the fin though- and even my harshest critic- my dad the UCLA Art Student likes it.

Clearer font will be nice, I thought it read 'Tor0pedos'...but then I'm slow.. the nose is right on..

You can use that font but I would modify it slightly:Make the Q a little more defined and insert a dash between it and the P.I'd leave it as is otherwise.

If you want opinions, here's my worthless one.

I think the face might look too busy on the torpedo...then again, I think it can work.

The lettering definitely needs work. I simply read "TORPEDOS" at first. I think a lot of folks might do that too.

Oh yeah, also wanted to add that I think the overall shape of the plaque is pretty cool. Its a GREAT idea for a plaque!

 

my 2 cents worth would be to make the rear fins a bit smaller (top to bottom) to make it look less like a rocket. definelty a faster looking font with a pronounced Q would be the ticket.

 

Bigger sharks teeth, Jim.....they'll reproduce alright. Those look kinda like dentures. Other than that and a little "Q" work, it's great...love the spinning propeller idear. I'll be an associate member.

 

Looks good!...the tail needs some work.

I agree on the changing the font, but it is cool idea and i like it. just my .02

 

it doesn't look anything like a torpedo to me

torpedos are straight sided, your's is bulbous like a cartoon V2 or Buck Rogers rocket

and the font is post modern space age like the Sahara/Vegas/bowling alley look

make it look like a torpedo,
put a dash between torq and pedos,
and use a font that looks like quick squarish brush strokes
like hand painted words on the side of a bomb

its all constructive, I would like wheels on mine, without the prop it would look like a wing tank lakester though! I like the name (because I don't have one NONAME)

 

That's a killer concept Jim, but I agree, it looks to rocket like for me. Is it too late to make changes? How many are you going to make?

I'm not SoCal, I was a Bay Area kid but I guess it has to be from somewhere.

I'd stay with the fin myself, it needs to be more of a suggested deal. make 'em thimk a little.

So how many ya gonna have cast and can I tell everyone I'm the club president, or treasurer. I don't wanna be the secretary.

 

Speaking of dildo's..... This is my factory REO h.o. Ties the car to the lindenburg blimp if I recall correctly.

 

I cleaned it up a little bit. I kinda dig that font style tho.
