Sad news hearing that John Glenn passed away today at age 95. As a kid John Glenn and others like him were the kind of heroes we looked up to. I remember reading the Happy Hollister adventure books my Aunt gave me with stories about Cape Canaveral and the test flights sending monkey's in space. In 1962 John Glenn became the first American in space orbiting earth 3 times. We were glued to our TV sets forever fascinated with this accomplishment. Throughout his private and po...litical life Senator Glenn was a class act. At age 75 he traveled in space again on a Shuttle mission. He will always remain a true hero in my eyes. I have my old scrap book from grammar school. In it I found some art work I did back in 1962. It was my interpretation of the historic John Glenn space flight. On the scrapbook page I wrote " Another space flight by John Glenn was made safely around the world 3 times". He got to travel to the Heavens and I am sure Heaven will now be his new home. RIP John Glenn.
John Glenn visited my Junior High school in the early 6o's and I remember the gym was so quiet when I started talking,He is a true American hero. HRP
I was the carburetor man at St. Claire Motor Co. (Cadillac-Oldsmobile) then, dispatcher called me on intercom, went upstairs and he told me "Doctors Hospital called, your wife's in labor. Get outa here..." Waiting room, about an hour and a half, watching TV as John Glenn orbited the earth a third time. Nurse came out right after John Glenn hit the water... "Mike...You have a baby girl!" Dee Dee was born right when John splashed down. Wonderful man, a pioneer in space and a leader here on earth. Godspeed, Mr. Glenn. ...and thank you for 'being there' when my daughter was born.
