I know there is a ton on information on this site and I've read most of the articles about this topic as well as the various articles on-line regarding the obvious problem of stuffing a 61" rear assembly in a 55" chassis but after seeing all of the various option for shortening the axles I still have a question for the group. If as I have been told, Jaguar uses a standard Chevy yoke and U Joint for their rear drive axles, then why couldn't you use 1966 to 1969 Corvair (tubular) half shafts in the Jag rear? The rear track is 57.2" which when all is said and done may come in around 55" hub to hub. Make sense or am I thinking too hard???
Sounds logical, but stuff like that never is that easy... Or at least I've never been that lucky. I got an early E type IRS that I want to use one day. I see you are this thread too so you should get some ideas soon. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=670178&page=2
