Last year I built a 39 Plymouth 2 door chopped sedan. I drove it a while but got wanting an A body Dodge. So I found this 72 340 Demon and I traded the 39 for it. Then later last year I built the 38 Plymouth 4 door and drove it a lot. But I got to missing my chop top and talked to the guy I traded with and he liked the 38 so we traded. Both cars have about the same running gear (318,727,8 3/4 rear) but the 38 has air and heat that the 39 does not. The person that I traded with had changed a few things for the better on the 39 like the wheels, better cooling, covered the running boards and a lot more. Anyways we traded and I thought i would see what everyone thought. I know I'm the one that has to be happy and I am just thought I'd share. And yes I still have the Demon. The way the 39 was when we traded. the 72 demon that I traded the 39 for. the 38 that I traded for the 39 The way the 39 is now.
That '39 is awesome. Beautiful car. I assume it started its life as a 4 door? Great job keeping it all mopar too, nice to see not everyone is hell bent to put a 350 in everything with wheels.
Good move. I agree about the humpback, something about that chop makes the trunk lid fit right in. Also, losing the wing windows was a good idea, I would put on hidden hinges as well.
He got hosed --that 38 just doesn't have It. The 39 has It. The Demon has It. When faced with a decision to make, about having a car that has It versus having a car with A/C, only a person that doesn't Get It would choose A/C. Well played, sir. Well played.
The 39 is beautiful! Its nice to be able to get 1 back once in a while isnt it. I like the Demon too!
Probably not, they made a 2 door coach to fit in between the coupe & sedan in the lineup when they were new. Cool car, do you have any pics of the car during the chop?
That's a nice looking bunch. It can be hard to choose the pick of the litter ! ! Enjoy cruzin' 'er this Spring !!
Great car. I bought a 39 plymouth with a 360. It needs to be painted. Would you mind sending me a picture of the front. How much did you chop the top? Would like to see the interior and engine compartment too. Great looking car. The two tone paint job looks fantastic!
That chop job just makes the car. I'm telling my wife she should consider a similar modification on her '37 humpback. Frank
