Projects It’s alive!!! A 1964 Chrysler tale....

  1. Ok so not alive yet but home...

So my last thread intended to have some fun before I got the car home went over like a lead balloon with some, which is ok, here is the official introduction to the car I’ve been trying to buy for four years.

It was parked in this building 25-30 years ago until last Monday.

  2. Fast forward a week to today.

My two teenage age daughters and I went on a 1500 km road trip to pick it up, left the house at nine am to head south, got home at midnight.

    Here’s some pictures from today.

  10. Love it. Excellent family adventure. I really like those crazy looking Chryslers. Square steering wheels. Never cookie cutter.

  11. It’s a 383, push button auto. I turned it over by hand. The car is amazingly solid. Plans are to clean it up and make it drive, and drive the wheels off of it.

It also came with a 4 door sedan parts car that has almost perfect bumpers.

    Yay Fargo!
    A huge ugly Chrysler convertible.
    Cool! LOL!
Looks like it's in great shape.
Seems a handful of us are snagging big old ugly Chryslers.
    I got a 53.
Big and heavy, but maybe they'll go pretty good with the big blocks.
Neat that your teenage daughters went with you. A good memory.
Good for you. Glad you finally got it. Have fun!

  14. Lane ,

Great find ,,,,,I know you are excited to finally get it .
To be so determined to stay with it until the owner would finally sell,,,means it is important to you .
Fix it up and drive it,,,,it’s what they were built for .
And it seems to be in very good shape,,,,,the fact that the engine rolls over is a plus .
Maybe it won’t take much to get it road worthy ?

The fact your daughters are in on it,,is a blessing as well !
    Congratulations !

  15. It’s a cruiser, I need to figure out what I’m doing for wheels, I have a pair of old chrome reverse for the rear but not the front. I forgot to grab a 4th hubcap off the other car when I was down there. I have a couple other choices for caps as well. Thinking it may just get the wheels painted black for now with a thin white wall until I find wheels.

Avery, my thirteen year old, has already claimed it for her graduation. Layna, my fifteen year old, is taking the Fargo. Makes me happy they show interest in this stuff. I have a few years to find a car for our youngest, Natalie who is two, to drive to grad.. Hmmm....

  16. Looks like a great fun project. Since the engine turns over, I bet you can get it running. May leak a lot though with the dried gaskets. Nothing to lose though, except some oil drips!
Post up some more pics of the interior and engine when you get a chance.

Hopefully I’ll have some time this week to get it running. First is to get it cleaned up. I still can’t believe it’s sitting in my yard!

I’ll get some more pictures of everything once I get it off the trailer, I have a five hour road trip this morning to pick up a new to me trailer...

Here’s the one picture of the inside that I have, it’s one he sent to me four years ago, there were so many parts around it that you could barely open the doors enough to get in.

    Happy for you.

But since you referenced your previous thread, I took a look.

I see how you kept everybody in suspense with no pictures of the car. You really dragged it out. Seems like you were enjoying it... but nobody else was.

    Don't do that again. LOL

    That’s a great old Chrysler.
It’s not ugly it’s cool

When you get it road ready and you’re cruising with the top down you’ll really enjoy it.

That will make your perseverance and efforts more than worth it.

Having your family cruising in the open air with you in a unique beautiful and comfortable old car that not everyone can just go to the local dealer and buy will be priceless.

  21. Wow! Man that's solid! You did good :D

  22. I learned to drive in my aunt's three month old '64 Newport when I was twelve. Oakland Hills Memorial Park (large cemetery outside of Detroit) is where many family members are interred at, I would go along and help her place flowers there. The driver's training helped me later that summer when I washed cars at my uncle's Mobil station, I got to move them in and out of the bays.

One thing I learned on my own that year was where the siren and beacon light switches were at on the local PD cars that we washed.

  23. They are, that’s when I loaded it?

    What was your point?

Congrats @57 Fargo...that's an unusual car.

What I mean by that is the lack of model nameplates...Yes I see Chrysler on the front but no other designations ie. Model like 300.

It is also interesting on the back the repetitious details in threes...I of course don't know my 64 Chryslers these are just my thoughts and observations...

Has this car had some subtle mods already?

Have fun with your new Very Dry Canadian Toy...;)

  25. I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think so, it’s had some questionable body work behind the back wheel on the drivers side overall a great car, I haven’t been able to find a ton of info on them, the same car was a Newport in the US.

  26. Hmmm, I think there were a few of us having fun with it. That’s ok. I’ll try to be more serious

  28. Meh...I knew you were having a good time!

I’m working on getting to getting it off the trailer, I was away all day picking up a trailer.
