It seems that Island dragway, in northeast NJ, has been closed, perhaps forever. I regret that I do not know more about this. Personally, I only discovered Island perhaps 20 years ago, and it was one of my favorite tracks. It still had a '60s vibe that LV used to have. I realize this is not on par with the human tragedy people face in CT tonight ( and I pray for the victims and their families ) but this is a sad day for drag racers in the northeast.
Their website is shutdown too. I spent a lot of weekends there in my youth. Saw Garlits back-up 200 mph there. I was too young, I think you had to be 18, to get into the pits so I pretended to be asleep in the back seat. I was tall so was never questioned.
