Came with my buddies buick. I’m not savvy enough to authenticate or even guess, but it’s pretty cool regardless. What do you guys think

Looks real, but get a radiocarbon dated test, and a lead based paint test

Personally, His work had a certain semitry and balance, this looks like the guy was whipping a mule with a paint brush

I guess I just assumed otherwise because I always see people going for perfect symmetry in more modern stuff. Like the Japanese saying, wabi sabi. Perfection in imperfection

As a single panel, yes, (quote-- "you can only see one side at a time anyway") but a split single panel with left and rights? As the saying goes--- Often copied-never duplicated

Pinstripe has the human factor involved. If you want perfection, better get some computer cut stripes.

 

It was reported that he spit on symetry.
If a customer beefed about ill matched sides, he had no sympathy.

The signature looks shiny compared to the rest. Did he sign a date under his name ? @Moriarity

I'm a bit of an optimist sometimes...

 

The 'signature' looks like it's over already shitty, flaky, multi layer paint. If it was real, the paint would not have been like that decades ago when it was supposedly done.

 

The valuable thing I learned from ken howard was use gasoline to clean brushes and paint instead of wasting expensive reducer etc

 

Lets see the car it was attached to.

The years and leave the one shot about how it looks. I’ve seen cars completely
Covered in surface rust with no remaining original paint and the pinstriping was still there and colored. It’s pretty tough

 

I'm looking at the sig up close on a full size computer screen.

 

The signature looks off in the V and ch. But what do I know?

 

I don't recall ever seeing any pinstriper date his signature (on a car) with the day/month/year.
Any other instances of Von Dutch dating his sig. in this way?
FWIW, the signature looks brighter/newer that the striping. A lot of striper's have emulated Duth's style over the years and this may be inspired work from a decades old piece with the Dutch sig added by someone?
