Did it smell like varnish? Sometimes the oil mixed in the gas kept it from going bad.

  3. I've got two stroke oil, that turns gas that color, for my weedwhacker.
That gas could be as much as a week old..............maybe more!!

A lot of marinas and bulk stations sell marked gas or purple gas. It has a dye added to it that means it does not include road tax in the price. Farmers and boaters don't use roads! If you get caught by the authorities using it on the road you can be fined. I've yet to see someone check for it though.

The check for it here big time. Usually now they are checking for off road (farm) diesel in road rigs.

  6. Not really old looking to me. I drained the tank on a car that had been sitting over 20 years and it was as black as tar and thick as molasses. Looked like a sick dog taking a dump when it was draining. Never did drain all the way it was so thick. Stunk to high heaven.

I don t think it was diesel.
The gas just changed color because it s been in the tank since ... who knows . I had so many tb removing the cap, I m not sure it was just weeks ago :p
    I think it s at least 30 yo .
Oh .. The Johnson outbard is quite dead. But what to expect from a 1929 engine ....

That gas can't be that old.... When I brought my Merc home in 2008, we accidentally punctured the tank with the fork lift loading it onto the trailer. That gas had a viscosity some where between Molasses and warm tar and about the same color. Then again, the Merc was parked in 1975 and 33 Northern Minnesota Winters can be tough on gas.....

  11. I used to pump Gasoline at the marina on Lake Piru from one of the old Glass gravity pumps and it was always somewhat that color.

Some brands of gas were dyed. Even different grades at the same station might be different colors.
Off road diesel is dyed red. They catch you running it in a street vehicle you're lookin at a 10K fine. Never seen or heard of off road gas being dyed but it could be.
I've drained 30 year old gas that looked normal except for the orange color. Wasn't thick at all. Unmistakable smell though.

Looks like Killians Red. A good cold one from the draft sounds good.
