Had to laugh, again, when I crawled underneath my 35 to take some measurements for 20170709_103506_001.jpg installing a new rear end. I looked at it a long time ago when I purchased the truck, and laughed about it then. Didn't bother me then or now, as its all coming out anyway. So, do you think the person who installed this just didn't have the proper fasteners, or do you think that they actually were attempting to make it "quicker" to remove the rear?

The guy you bought it from must have been a wing nut.

Wing nuts are a pretty soft nut. Some are pretty close to cast iron. They figure anything hand tightened doesn't require high strength.

When you install your new rear end, if you have problems with the driveshaft length let me know. I can help you out.

They must have had a special socket to insure proper torque.

Man that makes my arthritic thumbs hurt just looking at that.

  18. The use of WING NUT'S is NUTTING new,it seems that NUT JOBS have been using them for many years.

I remember the my auto shop teacher NUTTY NUMBNUTS, used them exclusively, his class was SLOTTED just after lunch.

Most of the students though he was a NUT because he always wore a CAP because he was once beamed by a ACORN, he wasn't a SQUARE NUT,he was actually kinda cool.

NUTTY had 3 NUMBNUTS brothers,JAM,FLANGE & TEE and they were a interesting bunch of NUTS, all 4 brothers lived together,it was said the family had a HEX on them but in reality it was a HEAVY HEX cast on them by the evil COUPLING family, and soon after they relocated to a CASTLE in the prestigious
    PREVAILING TORQUE LOCK community.

Of course you realize this is the mad ramblings of a DEUCE NUT! :D HRP

I'd wonder about the integrity of the U bolts as most automotive and truck U bolts have SAE theads rather than course threads.

think how strong that guys hands must be to be able to torque those wing nuts to 60 ft lbs.

do NOT shake hands with that guy.;)

I recall an article in Popular Mechanics in the late 60s telling how to use a hardwood block. I was 16 and knew better.
