Art & Inspiration Is there an engine you just love?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by El Caballo, Apr 12, 2017.

  1. I guess I always have had a soft spot for the Ford FE engine. My first rebuild was a 390 gt engine. I have had 352s, 390s, 406s, 428s and 427s, I once had a 427 tunnel port built to the hilt but couldn't afford to run it so I sold it for what I gave for it. Could have bought a new house for what they sell for now. I have had more of those engines than any other. Other than an intake that weighs more than me, I always thought they were easy to build and work on. And they are beautiful in the factory Cobra Jet trim.

By far my favorite it a big block mopar - "tabbed" distributor in the front, water pump removable from the housing, DRY intake manifold, shaft rockers, externally mounted oil pump, even a valley pan to keep you from dropping stuff in the lifter valley - what's not to like ???? uh, except price of parts...

My favorite too, and they have a sound like no other... 440gtxengine2.jpg

  4. As long as you include big chainsaws and old stationary engines like my 3 hp Fairbanks Morse.

  6. If we are going on sound..... I don’t enjoy working on them, but a two stroke Jimmy Diesel. Maybe an 8V-71 or a Silver Series 8V-92?

This engine and it's variants deserve to be in the "Hall of fame".
50 years of successful racing history from the same basic design.

  9. 262, 265, 283, 302, 305, 327, 350, 400. You see, therapy isn't required. Any other engines would get you into the loony bin because that square beg didn't fit anything else.

  13. You know, I kept looking at what I typed over and over before hitting post reply all the while thinking, "the list is to short". Oh well.
But while one the topic. There's an engine but together with what was on the floor at the time and it all fit well.
