/\ /\ /\ I like how he made the flames look like they're coming from under the hood sides.

The only concerning thing my wife ever said about hot rods or customs...
"I just I have a small problem with flames. They kinda look to me like amoebas swimming forward."
I didn't know quite what to do with that LOL.

I kinda see what she meant about some styles of flames. I should have shown her some old school flames that look less like amoebas swimming forward.

    Hello,

When we were still in elementary school, our art abilities were raw and there were no specific art method of teaching us in schools. It was free form or specific landscape type of drawings, etc. so we had to make do with our own notebooks and paper at home. The early flames started out as scallops as we could not make the sweeping curves of the famous car painters, ending in wild looking flames. Ours looked like what the editors in the old magazines were calling it scallops. Another name for highlighting an edge or two.

We knew we could not match the curving edges, so we started out with the capital letter C and used a ruler to make the straight lines meet together in a point. A few of these and they looked rough, but had the general look of scallops on those old hot rods. Not painting them on our plastic models was another story…it was extremely difficult and the thinner worked wonders on our mistakes.

Gradually our letter C began to get somewhat slanted and then we discovered the letter S. As "swoopy" as we made the capital letter S, they began to look like the final claw of flames. So adding a bunch of "swoopy" capital S letters was the beginning of the format of curves for flames.

Our Pee Chee Notebooks looked like a left over from an art school garage sale. Every edge had some form of scallops or as we got older and better, those "swoopy" flames.

So, early form of scallops for us beginners turned into fancy "swoopy" flames. The more we drew, the different shapes took on a new art form on later notebooks. The lower row of white "tennies" were the design I drew on our little toddler, granddaughter’s shoe…much to the dismay of her parents. (We bought new all white ones as per request…ha!)
